Srila Prabhupada just mentioned the following in his class this morning: 

"What is the meaning of Krsna? No interpretation, no imagination. Krsna is Vrndavana-candra or Gopijana-vallabha, Giri-vara-dhari, that’s all. 

Avatara does not mean a big beard or big hair. We do not like to see such ugly avatara. This is not avatara. Avatara must be mentioned in the sastra…

It is all mentioned in the sastra. So avatara should be understood from the sastra, not by jugglery or magic. This is rascal. As soon as one wants to establish his avartaship by jugglery and magic, kick him out, immediately…

An avatara comes to do so particular work. Just like Lord Ramacandra came to punish Ravana. That is avatara. And there are many avataras, and They are all mentioned in the Srimad Bhagavatam…"

Srila Prabhupada just mentioned the following in his Srimad Bhagavatam lecture today: 

Conditioned means you have to fulfill the condition. Just like from here if I want to go to America, then I have to fulfill the condition, The visa condition, the passport condition, the health condition, the custom condition – so many conditions. You cannot go immediately. Or nobody can come from there also. In every respect we are conditioned. Every respect. 

A baby has to be changed to become a boy. A boy has to be changed to become a young man. A yong man has to be changed to an old man. You cannot stop that. Therefore it is called jiva-loka, conditioned. Evey one of us is conditioned

But if we are part and parcel of Krsna. Why you are conditioned? The condition is because maya-mohita-cetasah. They are bewildered by maya. Maya means ‘what is not.’ Ma-Ya. So because we are under the clutches of maya, this material world, therefore we have been conditioned…

HYPNOTIZED BY TELEVISION

Prabhupada: Yes. Actually that is a fact. No family, no children, so they must have some. And the dog is their children, family. That is the attraction for..., because mostly they do not have family. 

Jayatirtha: They kill the family before they're born. (talking about abortion)

Jayatirtha: And then, instead they get dogs.

Prabhupada: There must be something to repose my love. So they have no family, no Krsna. So naturally keep dog. [break] ...must be there, to love. That is my tendency, but if I have nothing, then I will have to catch the dog. What can be done? [break] ...furnish this television. Dog and television and whiskey and cigarette. That's all. (laughter) Is it not? [break] ...in India these things are entering: dog, television. And cigarette, wine, has already entered.

Bahulasva: This is the degradation. [break]

Prabhupada: Ah, yes.

Bahulasva: So much sex, everything you watch.

Prabhupada: And not only that, horrible scene.

Bahulasva: Yes.

Prabhupada: Killing and like that.

Dharmadyaksa: They sit hypnotized. They say we are becoming hypnotized by chanting, but actually they are hypnotized by this TV set.

Prabhupada: No, no, that I have already explained. We must be hypnotized. If we do not become hypnotized by Krsna, then we must be hypnotized by this television and other...

"The difficulty of the present situation is that actually we are moving on account of spiritual strength, but they have no information of the spiritual strength. 

They are thinking is material.

There is a Rolls Royce but without petrol is useless. 
This is spirit, petrol spirit. 
Similarly, real strength is spiritual strength and that spiritual strength is Balarama… 
Bala means strength… 
Nityananda Prabhu is that spiritual strength…"



When Srila Prabhupada was addressed by a devotee inquiring: Is the pure devotee more merciful than Krsna?

Srila Prabhupada responded as folows: 

Oh yes, yes. Because Visnu could not excuse him, (talking about Durvasa Muni) but as soon as he came to Maharaja Ambarisa, fell down, and "You take all my assets of pious activities. You be saved immediately." 

That is Vaisnava. When he begged humble, "Maharaja Ambarisa, you save me, I am in danger." "Yes, you take all my pious activities' result. You be saved immediately." That is devotee.

Visnu refused, "No, I cannot give you protection." Therefore he is more merciful, although he was attacked, he was harassed. 

Just like Arjuna. Arjuna was merciful, "Let them enjoy. I don't want to kill them." Krsna said, "You must kill. You must kill. Why you are deviating from your path? You must kill." Therefore he taught him Bhagavad-gita, just to induce him to kill. But he was merciful, "No, they have done so much wrong to me, never mind. They are my relatives. I excuse. I don't want to fight." Yes. This is Bhagavad-gita. You see? Arjuna is more merciful than Krsna. Krsna wanted to see them all killed because they were, I mean to say, offender to the devotee. Last time, Krsna says, "Arjuna, you fight or not fight, it is already settled. They are not going back home. They will be killed here. If you like, you take the credit. That's all. It is already settled." Then Arjuna understood that "My Lord is so persistent. (laughter)

Why shall I resist Him? All right, I will do what He says."

Bali Mardana: You are more merciful than any of them, Prabhupada. You have come to the western countries.

Prabhupada: Hare Krsna. Yes, Vaisnava is, if one man is real Vaisnava. Just like see Jesus Christ. It is said that he took everyone's sins and he was crucified. So how much merciful he is, just see. 

But these rascals have taken, that "Let us go on committing sinful activities, and Christ has taken contract. He will suffer. And we shall do this." Such rascals. You see. They say that "Our Christian religion is so good that even we commit sinful acts, Christ will suffer, we shall not suffer." Just see.

Ramesvara: Many devotees who have moved outside of the temple are feeling that if they just continue to chant Hare Krsna, they can go back to the spiritual world, but they are not giving up their independence.

Prabhupada: So? What is your philosophy?

Ramesvara: Well, it seems somewhat hypocritical because chanting Hare Krsna means you are praying to Krsna to please be engaged eternally in His service and to become completely dependent on Him. So we try to explain like that. And to follow all the teachings and instructions, attending mangala aratik and morning and evening class.

Prabhupada: So they are doing that or not?

Guru-krpa: No. They are not even following regulative principles.

Prabhupada: Then?

Ramesvara: They think just by chanting, they will go back to the spiritual world. That is enough.

Prabhupada: Then what is the meaning of the ten kinds of offenses? If he is chanting without offense, then it is all right, but if he is committing offenses, it will not be effective. There are ten kinds of offenses. Whether he is strictly offenseless? Then it is all right. If he is offender, then it will not be fruitful. It will be fruitful; it will take long time because first of all you have to become offenseless. Then you will be admitted. (aside:) Don't come very near. That's it. So they are committing offenses, so how they can become perfect? He is committing not following the rules and regulation. That means he is thinking that "Whatever I do, it will be adjusted by chanting the name." Is it not?

Guru-krpa: Yes. That's one of the offenses.

Ramesvara: That is their philosophy.

Prabhupada: That is their philosophy. That is the greatest offense, namnad balad yasya hi papa-buddhih, that "I can go on committing sinful activity, but by chanting Hare Krsna mantra, it will be adjusted." That is the greatest offense. So explain to them.

Guru-krpa: So they say, "Then my chanting is useless? So I should stop?" That's what they say.

Prabhupada: No, not useless. But just like if you kindle fire and at the same time pour water, it will take long time. To kindle fire, make it dry, keep it dry. Then it will be very quickly successful. So you are committing offenses, at the same time chanting, so by chanting effect, you will come to that stage, but it will take time. If you want to be transferred to the spiritual world quickly, just like if you want to ignite the fire very quickly, you must keep it dry. If you simply put on the wet wood, then the fire will not be very powerful. It will be... It will take time. The fire will be blazing fire. Then it will dry. It will take... Better put dry wood to make it successful. This is the process. The effect of chanting Hare Krsna will not go in vain, but it will take time. Namnad balad yasya hi papa-buddhih. Because he is thinking "By the strength of chanting Hare Krsna mantra, I can do anything, all sinful activities, and it will be adjusted," that is the greatest offense, not only offense, the greatest offense. Namnad balad yasya hi papa-buddhih...

Srila Prabhupada mentioned the following this morning in his class of the SB at LA Mandir: 

Like I already have given the example that if I am sitting here, and the bug is also sitting here, that does not mean we are very confidential. No. Bu is different business, and my business is different. And bug’s business is biting. That kind of association is not going to help. 

Association means to develop love for the person. That is association. So we have to become associate of Krsna as Arjuna became. Always with Krsna, eating with Krishna and joking with Krishna and fighting with Krishna everything with Krsna. That is wanted. 

Therefore Krishna certifies to Arjuna: “That very ancient science of the relationship with the Supreme is today told by Me to you because you are My devotee as well as My friend and can therefore understand the transcendental mystery of this science.” BG.4.3

Krsna is ready to associate with you in any way you like. Somebody likes Krishna as a friend somebody likes Krsna as a husband. Somebody likes Krsna as paramour. So Krishna, He is ready. In any way, Krishna is ready… Because we are part and parcel of Krsna so the part and parcel must remain with Krsna…

Srila Prabhupada: "My Guru Maharaja used to say that although this process is guaranteed, don’t wait for another life. Finish this business in this life..."

Srila Prabhupada spoke about the maha-mantra this morning during his class on the SB. 1.7.20-21 "Simply by chanting you’ll get all success of life" he said...

Caitanya Mahaprabhu had advised that by simply chanting one gets the highest perfection. That is Caitanya Mahaprabhu’s blessing and gift. So we should be very careful and follow the regulative principles. Then automatically you’ll be perfect.

You have to make it perfect. There is process, how to become perfect in chanting the mantra. Similarly, It is not an ordinary, material mantra. This Hare Krsna mantra is spiritual mantra. It is not material…

Chant this Hare Krsna mantra properly, without any offense, then once chanting is sufficient to make you free from the reaction or all sinful life. Once chanted. There is no question of chanting thousand of times. It is said, once chanting of Hare Krsna mantra can vanquish so many, so much accumulated reaction of sinful life… 

So if we chant it properly without offenses, if we chant according to the principle, then the mantra will act. Mantra will act in so nicely that the mantra will keep you always in touch with the Supreme Personality of Godhead. 

So if you are allowed to keep yourself constantly in the company with Krsna, then just imagine what is your position…

So if we constantly chant Hare Krsna mantra. Then we are not in this material world...

You can chant more than sixteen or sixteen hundred times. But practically we see that even chanting sixteen rounds becomes difficult. So don’t try to imitate, but do it properly, that's what is advised by your spiritual master, without any offense. 

"My Guru Maharaja used to say that although this process is guaranteed, don’t wait for another life. Finish this business in this life..."


Very strong statement by His Divine Grace AC Bhaktivedanta Srila Prabhupada during this morning walk: 

Brahmananda: It is difficult to come to that understanding, that actually, those who are the leaders are not to be trusted.

Prabhupada: Yes, leaders means government men. That is described. They are all thieves and rogues, anywhere. Dasyu-dharmabhih. Dasyu. Dasyu means plunderers, rogues. Unless you become a rogue you cannot go to the government. You cannot... Any honest man cannot stay with these government men. That is not possible at the present age. Any government. Unless... Just like first-class rogue, your Nixon, he became the president. Because he was a first-class rogue, he became the president. So unless you are first-class rogue, you cannot stay within the circle of government men. Rajanya dasyu-dharmabhih. And their business will be to eat up the vital force of the people. Bhaksayisyanti praja sarve rajanya dasyu-dharmabhih. This is the statement. And people will be harassed. On account of their godlessness, they will be harassed by three things: famine, no rain, and taxation. Taxation by the government, and there will be no rain, there will be famine, no food, and they will be so much embarrassed that they will give up their family and go away, gacchanti giri-kananam, will go, enter into the hills and forest, giving up their hearth and home. This is Kali-yuga. And this is due to their godlessness. On account of this, then the democracy, means anyone, brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya, sudra, anyone who becomes powerful, he will capture the government post. So the sudras, they are now powerful. Sudras. Industry means sudra. So they will capture the governmental power. Just like Communist.

Devotee (2): Even if we present a Krsna conscious candidate, the people will still choose a rogue to lead them, even if we present a candidate who is Krsna conscious.

Brahmananda: Candidate, someone to stand for the election.

Prabhupada: You cannot do anything. Unless you turn the mass of people Krsna conscious, what you will do there? Suppose one man is elected. All demons. What he will do there? Therefore the first thing is that turn the people Krsna conscious, and when they will vote, that is certain. Otherwise it is waste of time. (end)



"No Question of Hating Women"

Dr. Patel: One Gosvami refused to see Mirabai, and then she said that "There are only be men at the bhajana, not that... Krsna is the only man..."

Prabhupada: One thing is, we don't find any authoritative scripture that Mirabai ever met Rupa Gosvami, but they say like that in Vrndavana. But from the life of Rupa Gosvami, we understand that the Gosvamis were so popular in Vrndavana that if there was any family quarrel, husband and wife, they used to come to Rupa Gosvami to settle up, and automatically he would give the decision, and they would settle up. So how it is possible that he did not see any woman?

Dr. Patel: He did not, ah, Rupa Gosvami or Jiva Gosvami, some other Gosvami, they say.

Giriraja: It was Jiva Gosvami.

Prabhupada: Jiva Gosvami?

Giriraja: Yes.

Prabhupada: Why Jiva Gosvami should not see woman? That is also doubtful. 

Dr. Patel: He, he did see Mirabai.

Prabhupada: Caitanya Mahaprabhu also never refused to see woman. But womans were offering respect from a distance, that's all. Not very near. But we don't see that He refused to see woman. Why the Goswamis will do that?

Dr. Patel: That is the story going round.

Prabhupada: Then pandita sama-darsinah. How it is possible?

Harikesa: There's that story of the one woman who was on His shoulder, on that (sic:) Nrsimha column looking at Lord Jagannatha, and Govinda tried to take her down and Lord Caitanya said no.

Prabhupada: One woman, out of her eagerness to see Jagannatha, there was big crowd, she jumped up over the shoulder of Caitanya Mahaprabhu, and the devotees said, (in an urgent whisper:) "Come on, come on down. What you are doing?" Caitanya: "No, she is so eager to see Jagannatha. Don't disturb. Don't disturb. Let her stand on My shoulder." So there is no question of hating woman. We want simply devotee. That's all. But unless we are very advanced, we take precaution. That is another thing..

Srila Prabhupada was talking about ksatriya codes this morning of his class of the Srimad Bhagavatam, First Canto, Chapter Seven, Text 13 and 14. And this is the verse in question: 

“When the respective warriors of both camps, namely the Kauravas and the Pāṇḍavas, were killed on the Battlefield of Kurukṣetra and the dead warriors obtained their deserved destinations, and when the son of Dhṛtarāṣṭra fell down lamenting, his spine broken, being beaten by the club of Bhīmasena, the son of Droṇācārya [Aśvatthāmā] beheaded the five sleeping sons of Draupadī and delivered them as a prize to his master, foolishly thinking that he would be pleased. Duryodhana, however, disapproved of the heinous act, and he was not pleased in the least.”

When a Brahmana takes the occupation of a ksatriya it is degradation. This draini, although he belonged to the brahmana family and he accepted the profession of a ksatriya he degraded so much that he cut off the heads of five sons of Draupadi while there were sleeping. So much degradation. A ksatiya never slains anybody who is sleeping… 

...So Duyodhana by the blessings of his mother, his whole body became iron-like solid so been beating by Bhima, it was not easy. So the story is that Gandhari, the mother of Duryodhana, she was great chaste woman. Because her husband was blind, she used to remain as blind woman covering the eyes. But she had some power. Chaste woman, or anyone who sticks to the regulative principles, he gets a power, spiritual or material . He gets power.

A brahmacari gets power if he follows brahmacarya. Everyone, if we follow the prescribed rules and regulations, automatically you become powerful. 

So Gandhari said to her son, “I shall see you naked and you will be solidified just like iron.” So he was going naked and Krsna saw. So He asked Him, “Where you are going? You agree going naked? At least you have some( langota?) This is not good.” So Duryodhana took the instruction of Krsna…

And Gandhari when she open her eyes and saw that Duryodhana wasn’t completely naked, then she began to smile, that ‘my attempt is failure.’ So krsna knew it, that part which was covered, that wasn’t turned iron. The other parts turned into iron on account of seeing by Gandhari. So in this fight Krsna hinted Bhima that ‘you strike him in that part of his body.’

...When there is fight between two ksatriyas, the decision is that one must die. Unless one dies, the business of fighting, will never stop. That is called vira-gatim if a ksatriya dies in fight, he gets the promotion of vira-atim means he goes to the heavenly planet. 

In the fight all the parties who died, they all obtained vira-gatim. And most of them they achieved svarupa. That is described in a different place, svarupa means its original, spiritual form.

So fight is not always bad. If it is dharma-yuddha, according to the prescribed rules, not whimsical fight, then there is again. This science is lost. There is no such thing. Now fighting means hooliganism vandalism, Guna-insm…

Srila Prabhupada Mentioned The Following In His Class Given This Morning: 

"Ksipta means madness... so there are two kinds of madness. One madness is for material enjoyment. The material madness that entangles people more and more in the process of birth and death. 

So madness there is. That is one madness you have to give up –this material madness- and you have to become mad after Krsna. Then your life is successful. 

That madness is exhibited by Caitanya Mahaprabhu.

That madness is wanted. One moment appears to be one yuga. One yuga means twelve years. Crying... There is tears in the eyes like a torrent or rain...

So that madness, was fully exhibited in Vrndavana by the gopis. They were mad after Krsna. When Krsna left Vrndavana, went to Mathura, they became so mad that they had no other business than simply crying torrents of rain. That is wanted. That is Vrndavana life...

If one is mad after Bhagavan, he is as good as Bhagavan.

In the spiritual world Bhagavan and His paraphernalia there is no difference…
