We had ecstatic kirtan, and then I explained to the audience the significance of the Hare Krishna mantra and the Bhagavad-gita. Even though the audience was small, I was amazed to see how receptive they were because most of them purchased Bhagavad-gitas at the end of the program. In fact, we sold every single Bhagavad-gita that we had in stock! There is nothing more satisfying than to see people going home with a Bhagavad-gita after hearing about Krishna. This means that the effect of what they heard will remain with them for the rest of their lives. Sankarshan Das Adhikari Explaining the Philosophy of the Bhagavad-gita 30 September--Viljandi, Estonia http://www.backtohome.com/images/2011-Fall/Viljandi_Lect1.JPG http://www.backtohome.com/images/2011-Fall/Viljandi_Lect2.JPG Answers by Citing the Vedic Version: Question: How to Atone for Offending a Devotee? I would like to know what is the atonement or prayascitta that is to be done for criticizing, making fun of, or any sin committed in any form to a devotee. Arvind Answer: Bow Down and Beg for Forgiveness When one commits an offense at the feet of a Vaisnava, one must immediately offer obeisances falling down flat on the ground at his feet and apologize begging to be forgiven for your offense. Ananda Subramanian, Iowa, USA: God is not dead

Even though the people of the world have forgotten God and may say that God is dead, this is not a fact. One can understand God when one takes to the Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement, and thus one can be happy. - SB 18.1.13

People often claim that there is no God or He is dead. Here Srila Prabhupada categorically and emphatically states that God is not dead and that by taking to Krishna Consciousness, one can understand God. This statement is neither sentimental nor ritualistic but comes from direct realization of God. Like Srila Prabhupada, if we also chant the Hare Krishna maha mantra - Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare/Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare regularly & daily and cultivate good character of humility, tolerance, devotion to God and serve people of saintly qualities, then we can also see God.

If our search for God is serious, then all who read this post, can take up this test and try it in sincere earnest, rest assured our doubts of God will be laid to rest as we will have direct realization of God ourself and will not require external validation.

Hare Krishna

Akrura das, Gita Coaching: THE MYTH OF SCARCITY

With the good will of the Supreme Personality of Godhead there can be enough fruits, grain and other foodstuffs produced so that all the people in the world could not finish them, even if they ate ten times their capacity.

In this material world there is actually no scarcity of anything but Kṛṣṇa consciousness.

If people become Kṛṣṇa conscious, by the transcendental will of the Supreme Personality of Godhead there will be enough foodstuffs produced so that people will have no economic problems at all. One can very easily understand this fact.

The production of fruits and flowers depends not upon our will but upon the supreme will of the Personality of Godhead.

If He is pleased, He can supply enough fruits, flowers, etc., but if people are atheistic and godless, then nature, by His will, restricts the supply of food.

Subhavilasa das ACBSP, Toronto, CA: In the News: 40 years of 'Harinaam' chanting

Picture

All glories to Srila Prabhupada. Srila Prabhupada is pictured above dancing in New York City in 1966. When Srila Prabhupada left the shores of India he knew that Indian were copying the west in sense gratification and materialism. He knew that if westerners were to take up Harinaam then it would come full circle and Indian would once again take up Harinaam.

This is exactly what happened as 10,000 devotees celebrated Harniaam in Mumbai and as the below article rightly states it was "re-introduced in India" by Srila Prabhupada.

Harinama sankirtan yajna ki Jaya!
Srila Prabhupada ki Jaya!

A distinct image of the Iskcon (International Society for Krishna Consciousness movement is that of sanyasis dancing and chanting the lord’s name.

On September 25, 10,000 Krishna devotees celebrated the 40th anniversary of the 'Harinaam' chanting, which was re-introduced in India by founder Swami Prabhupada in Mumbai.

"Chanting and dancing as a form of worship has there been around for thousands of years," said Premnidhi Prabhuji. Heads of temples - Kapila Prabhuji from Juhu, Gaurang Prabhuji from Girgaum Chowpatty, Haridas Prabhuji from Mira Road and Ramchandra Prabhuji from Kharghar participated in the procession.

Gaura Nitai das, Mayapura, IN: Nazi, Jew, or Devotee of Nityananda Prabhu?

Sri Nityananda Prabhu

Srila Prabhupada

The following is an endearing exchange between Sacinandana Maharaj and Radhanatha Swami along with hundreds of devotees from the Radha Gopinatha Mumbai Chowpatty temple. The exchange took place during the year  1997 at Sri Ekachakra Dhama.  I remember this exchange took place rather late at night after a full day of touring Ekachakra and immediately after Radhanatha Swami gave a dynamic and heartfelt class on the unparalleled mercy of Lord Nityananda. We were all sitting under a banyan tree next to a rice field.

Sachinandana Swami

Sachinandana Swami: Hare Krishna…Let me disclose something which is not fit to be disclosed.  I was born in a very sinful family…Germans. My father has done crimes which we cannot say.  He was in the Nazi regime. Sometimes he remembers the atrocities against the Jewish population, he becomes speechless and cries. This is the background…we come from a family of brutal murderers and killers. We could tell you stories which would make you faint.

Somehow my mother gave a complicated birth to me on Nityananda's  appearance day. She was unconscious …it was complicated. The birth occurred just on the tithi of Nityananda's appearance day. This sinful person (humbly referring to himself) who was destined by his karma to take birth in a family of brutal murderers. Because of this unconscious relation with Lord Nityananda we met the pure devotee, Srila Prabhupada. This is the proof of Lord Nityananda's mercy. It is sitting before you in a body with blood flowing through his veins and so on and so forth.

I am disclosing this not because I am a special person..no, no. I was born in a family of great sinners. Special people do not take such births. It is Lord Nityananda's mercy which made even the most fallen person into a devotee of God. This is proof of Lord Nityananda's mercy. Hare Krishna!

Radhanatha Swami
Radhanatha Swami: I would like to briefly expand on this very intimate revelation. Sacinanda Maharaja described his  father's  past. He was a Nazi who killed Jews. My father was a Jew. Practically every one of his relatives were killed by the Nazis. All of his aunts, uncles, cousins were killed in a concentration camp by your father.
Now try to understand the mercy of Lord Nityananda. Sacinandana Maharaja and I are the dearest of friends. This is the power of Lord Nityananda Prabhu. We have transcended our backgrounds as Jews and Nazi's, and we are blissfully dancing together in the chanting of the holy names.

Ekachakra Dhama ki jay!

Here are the links to the lectures. The exchange between Radhanatha Swami and Sacinandana Swami takes place on the second link at about 48:00. The website says that these classes took place in the year 2000 but they actually occurred in 1997. Please take an hour or two to listen and meditate on these wonderful and blissful activities of Nityananda Prabhu.

Australian News: Mahamantra Yoga – Chanting to Anchor the Mind and Access the Divine

Mahamantra Yoga – Chanting to Anchor the Mind and Access the Divine

Based on a rich and ancient tradition revived more than five hundred years ago by Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu in India, mahamantra yoga involves repeated recitation of a sacred phrase, such as the name of a deity, to anchor the mind and access ecstatic states, higher consciousness, and, ultimately, as you vibrate the holy names, the Divine presence in sound. Part of the bhakti devotional tradition, mahamantra yoga is considered the best path to self-realization in the current age, offering a doorway into the hidden recesses of our innermost being–the internal forest of the heart.

Citing ancient Vedic texts and the insights of perfected mahamantra yogis, Richard Whitehurst reveals the methods of mahamantra yoga and his own profound experiences based on more than 20 years of intense practice. Using the core principles of this ancient tradition, he offers mental and physical exercises–such as how to coordinate the breath, vocal cords, and mouth–to move beyond rote chanting and pursue the practice consciously and joyfully. He explains how to overcome common obstacles to successful chanting as well as purification practices to intensify your efforts. Including a 45-minute CD of mahamantra yoga chants, this book is the perfect guide for those looking to deepen the spirituality of their physical yoga practice and attain the goals of spiritual life in the midst of the modern world.

"From time immemorial, religions have used singing and the chanting of sacred syllables, mantras, to lift their spirits to the divine. Yoga, for its part, is an exercise or practice to strengthen the human spirit and help it mature. All this is pulled together in . . . this remarkable book."
–Huston Smith, author of The World's Religions

"Chanting is a venerable vehicle for altering consciousness and for personal transformation. This book is a manual for diligent practitioners of the 'great mantra' process of chanting, one rooted in ancient Hindu traditions. It is detailed, comprehensive, and instructive. Those readers who immerse themselves in it will find the journey worth the effort."
–Stanley Krippner, Ph.D., coauthor of Personal Mythology and the Alan Watts professor of psychology at Saybrook University

Sridhara Das (Richard Whitehurst) is an initiated disciple of Srila Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. He began his practice of mahamantra yoga in 1970 while a student of psychology at the University of Florida. For 10 years he lived as a wandering monk and traveled extensively throughout the Indian subcontinent. He has lectured about the tradition of bhakti yoga and mahamantra yoga at colleges and universities in India, England, the United States, and Australia and has appeared on radio and TV. An accomplished facilitator of kirtan and bhajan, he lives in New Farm, Queensland, Australia.

Monks Farewell!

Halifax, Nova Scotia

Today was time allotted for parting words with the brahmacari monks. Under the good direction of Nitai Ram, most of these men (numbering eight) were novices three years ago. Since their joining they have gained experience at distributing books by our guru, Srila Prabhupada. They have learned cooking, cleaning, giving classes and in the case of one, learned to do havans (fire sacrifice), how to record expenses and income, how to play the drum and other instruments and lead chanting sessions.

We reflected on the grass at the historic Citadel. Experience was our basic theme for the day. Practically all of these young men had their experience at gratification of the senses, but they had changed upon the life of devotion and it was game over – a new experience. Now, with time, direction and trial and error, and a lot of persistence, they have blossomed from the experience.

If you look for a job and you send in a resume which lists that you have some years of experience at some task, that says a lot.

In the morning I led a class and discussion about the experience of twelve great mahajans (teachers) and how in their association one becomes trained or at least learned by taking direction from their messages which are recorded in the book, Bhagavatam.

These boys, our brahmacaris, are enviable. They work well as a group. I'm going to miss them. We spent some time together walking and chanting such as at Phoenix Rising Yoga Centre last evening. May their experience place them in a position of devotional empowerment. They will bear the torches that we currently hold in our hands.
