[continued from part 1] In this wisdom story, the bull and cow were fully conscious beings, representing Dharma (religion personified) and the personality of the Earth, to teach us valuable lessons about the real principles of religion, and how they are maintained and lost. Thus the king, who was a pure devotee of the Lord, was able to converse with them. Upon stopping Kali from beating and injuring the bull, he began an instructive discussion with the personality of religion, or Dharma the bull. After telling the cow and bull that as long as he was king, they need not fear further mistreatment, he spoke to the personified Earth, and then inquired from Dharma:

There is an attempt in Russia to ban the Bhagavad Gita., we can not just let it happen without any form of protest. It’s time to speak up! Please sign this petition on line, we must try to do something to stop this.
They need the signatures on latest Sunday, Dec 18th!
It would be really good if everyone, who reads this, could sign the petition. Please do it now, without delay!
From a spiritual perspective, this isn’t a very helpful question. While it is true that part of the beginning of spiritual life is to question why there is suffering, looking to only blame others misses one of the most empowering perspectives: taking personal responsibility for our life. Even for good psychological health, blaming others or things for our suffering or problems is only a stage of healing (not a place to live forever). Two main type of people seek counseling, those suffering from a neurosis or personality disorder. Neurotics assume too much responsibility, while character disorders not enough. Of the two, neurotics are easier to treat. Without taking responsibility (in a balanced way) for our life and our reactions to what happens to us, we may remain stuck in anger or resentment, or consider ourselves a helpless victim of circumstances.
The Bhagavad Gita trial in Russia is the trial of the Russian edition of Bhagavad Gita As It Is initiated in June 2011 by the state prosecutor’s office in Tomsk, Russia on charges of religious extremism. The prosecutor’s office requested the court to include the book in the Federal List of Extremist Materials along with Hitler’s Mein Kampf and other literatures illegal in Russia,[1] and to ban its printing, possession, and distribution.[1][2] The court case is thought to have been instigated by the FSB and the Russian Orthodox Church as an attempt to restrict the Hare Krishna movement, a religious minority in Russia seen by the Church as a “sect” that wants to “set its roots” in the Tomsk region.[1][2]
The prosecutor’s office based their case on an “expert testimony” from Tomsk State University professors who opined that the book contained expressions of religious hatred and “gender, race, nationality, and language” discrimination[1] and that Krishna’s teachings in the Bhagavad Gita, one of the most sacred literatures in Hinduism, are “evil and not conforming to Christian religious view”.[3] Bhagavad Gita As It Is, a Russian version of ISKCON founder A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada’s translation and commentaries on the ancient text, published by the Bhaktivedanta Book Trust, is a central scripture for Hare Krishna followers.[1] It was presented to many world leaders, including the British Prime Minister David Cameron, who said that he “keeps a copy of the book in his office.”[1]
Our present existence is bi-dimensional: we are spiritual beings residing in material bodies. Harmonizing the material and the spiritual dimensions of our existence is a perennial challenge. If we wish to make spiritual advancement, our aspirations have to be primarily in the spiritual realm: the development of selfless, spiritual love for God and all his children. However, when we wish to express our love through practical service in the material world, our actions have to be primarily in the material realm.
How do we balance acting principally in the material realm with aspiring principally in the spiritual realm? The Bhagavad-gita (2.16) offers a helpful insight: the material never endures, the spiritual never ceases. When we become rooted in this insight, worldly change can change our actions materially, but not our aspirations spiritually. Thus, we value change, knowing that it affects our actions, but don’t overvalue change so much that it changes our values and aspirations. After all, even the most momentous material change can’t change the twin ground realities that:
All pleasures and troubles from material changes are passing
Only the shelter and satisfaction from spiritual devotion is lasting.
1967 December 17: "I think Krishna has brought me again in your country for the purpose of training you perfectly. Without education we cannot preach because a preacher has to meet many kinds of opposite elements."
1968 December 17: "So far the Indian population is concerned, we have no such discretion that we have to pick our members from a particular group of people. Everyone is Krishna's part and parcel. I think the Canadian people will be especially suitable for your membership. Try for this."
1972 December 17: "I know that all big leaders are falling victim to sex-life. Now you have no power to instruct. One who is not following himself, how he can instruct others?"
1974 December 17: "Now you are old, 60 years old, better retire from all enterprising activities and devote yourself fully for developing Krishna Consciousness. You can live with us anywhere in the world. That will not cost you at all."
1975 December 17: "Lord Caitanya personally traveled all over India for six years. When he met big scholars he spoke philosophy, otherwise for the mass of people, kirtana and prasadam distribution. So continue this program, it is very pleasing to Lord Caitanya."
1975 December 17: "A modern scientist believes there was no civilization before 3,000 years, our Bhagavatam was spoken by Sukadeva 5,000 years ago. There are so many contradictory things. We have our authority and they have their authority."
1975 December 17: "Produce your own food grain, milk and vegetables, eat as much as absolutely necessary, but don't eat more. If there is time left over you can divert your attention but do not waste your time in any other thing except Devotional service."
(Kadamba Kanana Swami, Mayapur, November 2011) Lecture – Caitanya-caritamrta
It is interesting how one Personality of Godhead is worshiping another Personality of Godhead to appear. For an outsider, it is a very confusing part in our philosophy. Why is God worshiping God to appear? It doesn’t make sense at all. No! It does because we remember that Lord Visnu’s mission was:
‘paritrāṇāya sādhūnāṁ
vināśāya ca duṣkṛtām
dharma-saṁsthāpanārthāya
sambhavāmi yuge yuge’ (B.G.4.8)
To establish the principles of dharma, but only Krishna can give the love of God of Goloka, and no one else, and that is the only incarnation of God who can give it. So Advaita Acharya was certainly able to give people the process for attaining liberation – that he could give, and he could teach that without difficulty. But he could not give Krishna Prema, since only Krishna Himself can give that! Therefore, he wanted the Lord to appear. So it is for this reason that Srila Bhakti Siddhanta in his commentaries says:
“Therefore Advaita Acharya is the most compassionate, because his compassion it is not like the cheap cheating compassion of the materialist, but his compassion is that he wants to give the people the highest and the best. That he wants them to have love of God.”
The highest quality of mercy is what he wants everyone to have, and particularly after Lord Caitanya appeared (after the Maha Prakash Lila where He revealed His transcendental nature). Lord Caitanya asked Advaita Acharya, to ask for a benediction.
And Advaita Acharya asked Him that His mercy would be given to the most fallen in particularly, and Lord Caitanya said:
“Yes, very well spoken. Yes agreed”.
And Advaita agreed. So it is really from there that we get the strong claim for the saying:
“Lord Caitanya is the deliverable of the most fallen and that it was Advaita Acharya who established that!”
So that is the beginning of the claim and after that Lord Caitanya became the deliverer of the most fallen. Afterwards, most of them claimed it……Rupa and Santana Goswami claims it, Markhanda Thakur claims it…everyone claims it……we claim it! Everyone now claims:
“I’m the most fallen…and I should get!”
But it is all the strength of Advaita Acharya’s benediction that became established!
The past week Kadamba Kanana Maharaja spent doing various programs around Durban. On tuesday evening he went to the nama hatta in Umlazi, an African township in Kwa-Zulu Natal. The program practically just consisted of one amazing and powerful kirtana, which went on for about two hours. After the Kirtana, Maharaja gave a short talk about the incredible potency of the holy name and distributed twenty zulu-books to the local devotees.
On Wednesday he gave the morning class in the Durban temple, speaking on the topic of the auspicious occasion of Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura’s disappearance day. After the talk he left Durban to Ladysmith, where he was to hold an evening program at the local temple. This very program included a lecture, which Maharaja built on 64 quotes of Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Thakura.
After staying the night in Ladysmith, Maharaja spent the next day with meeting the devotees of Ladysmith.
In the evening, he went on to Pietermaritzburg to give a program at the ISKCON centre there. Maharaja let a beautiful bhajana, followed by a talk on the Bhagavad Gita, establishing, how by surrendering to the Lord, then Krsna Himself starts to take care of our lives.
On Friday than Maharaja went to a home program in Hillcrest, near Durban. The lecture he gave there once again centered around the quotes of Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura and enventually winded up in an open discussion.
The last program during the stay in Durban took place in the new Jagannatha Puri temple in Phoenix. In this evening program, Maharaja, besides leading a powerful kirtana, gave a presentation on the Bangladesh tour, which he went on with a group of devotees earlier this year.
The soul of man, left to its own natural level, is a potentially lucid crystal left in darkness. It is perfect in its own nature, but it lacks something that it can only receive from outside and above itself. But when the light shines in it, it becomes in a manner transformed into light and seems to lose its nature in the splendor of a higher nature, the nature of the light that is in it.
So the natural goodness of man, his capacity for love which must always be in some sense selfish if it remains in the natural order, becomes transfigured and transformed when the Love of God shines in it. What happens when a man loses himself completely in the Divine Life within him? This perfection is only for those who are called the saints – for those rather who are the saints and who live in the light of God alone. For the ones who are called saints by human opinion on earth may very well be devils, and their light may very well be darkness. For as far as the light of God is concerned, we are owls. It blinds us and as soon as it strikes us we are in darkness. People who look like saints to us are very often not so, and those who do not look like saints very often are. And the greatest saints are sometimes the most obscure.
So it’s Srila Prabhupada’s book marathon time the temple devotees are all fired up, each morning the book scores are read up and it is contagious.
So sat eating Prasadam HH Dayananda Swami sat next to me and invited me out on books with him that evening, for those who may be unfamiliar with his style of preaching this is from house to house.
Inside of me was a mixed emotion for many years as many may be aware I was a full time minister for the Jehovah’s Witnesses, indeed I had been doing the door to door work since I could remember, in the pram with my parents, through school and on into adult life; indeed when I finished I was as devotees would say fried.
Later on I helped a church minister friend of mine for three years doing street ministry/plays especially over the christmas period reminding people of the true non materialistic meaning and traveling over the summer time was always an interesting way to engage and help people realize there true position in life.
But as time marches on and the mind becomes more entrenched it becomes a little harder, the mind comes up with excuses and hindrances and although my desire is to take part in the book marathon I have been a little reserved; especially as my first times out was street preaching and less about engaging in talking to people and more about how much laxmi is made.
HH Dayananda Swami though was neither taking no, nor allowing me to escape the house to house book marathon.
Our connection goes back almost as long as I’ve been in the movement, in deed when I first came to Bhaktivadanta Manor he not only immediately engaged me, indeed offering Guru Arati. And speaking not words that I wanted to hear but needed; so knowing my mind and history he was not going to take a simple NO.
Heavy with cough and cold I was ready for bed, but HH Dayananda Swami simply handed me a coat and assured me it was only for an hour or so.
But heres the thing, my own Guru Maharaja always talks about the flavor of devotional life, how there is always a new flavor to be had; ever fresh ever new.
Indeed after spending some times watching and learning from HH Dayananda Swami I was inspired to actually for the first time in many many years to knock on a door to give out transcendental knowledge, so much mercy was shown that the very first door the individual was eager to take a book;
Later on we met a lady who was saying how her son had gone to the manor, he was so full of anger and get when he returned he was transformed; encouraging her to visit herself she also took a higher taste book so the evening went by too quickly and before I knew it I was snuggled up in bed, coughing and spluttering.
But the bliss, what bliss; my desire to participate in Srila Prabhupada’s book marathon fulfilled and the knowledge it is quantifiably different from any thing I’ve ever done before.
So give it a try, grad some books, knock on some doors; invite them to the centre.
Hare Krsna dear devotees, I hope your week has been blessed and your chanting peaceful. Today it is a very hot day here in my city - we are in the summer, while in other cities it is freezing cold.
The same way it is sometimes difficult to face the difficulties of this world and our body we know that we always have a great reason to continue chanting. First because with the Holy names we are never alone and we can always count on that. Second because when we chant we advance - actually in all aspects and this chanting even gives peace to our hearts and makes us healthier and more lively.
The love we develop for Krsna starts coming and all the contamination is cleansed - we become bhaktas and servants of Krsna, devoted and opened to receive His mercy of more service.
"Raise your family to be exemplary Vaisnavas by yourself following the regulative principles and rigidly chanting Hare Krishna mantra, and without any doubt they and yourself will become all of you firmly situated on the path back to home, back to Godhead."
If marriage and monogamy closely resemble one another, then so will gay marriage and gay monogamy. Between them, the common behavior of seeking approval matters because approving of homosexuality is exactly what Srila Prabhupada protested.
After 4 years pause, i decided to distribute books again going door to door. I am praying I have the patience and enthusiasm to continue. I will be honest, living in a place where there is absolutely no devotee or devotee association or for that matter remotely spiritual, I find it very difficult to motivate myself to knock on doors.
Another problem is at least 50% of the people here are conservative christians and it is practically difficult to get them to take a book. So I decided to go to a neighborhood which is partially affluent and less affluent. Initially I was skeptical if anyone would even open the door. But then I motivated myself by thinking I will simply do my duty and the leave the rest to Krishna. In other words, I would not be disturbed mentally.
I may have knocked on 30 to 35 doors in a span of 2 hours. Almost I would say 25 doors did not open although I could hear their tv playing. Some were genuinely not home. One house, I knocked and the dogs (two) started to bark loudly and I was praying the owners don't open the door! Foolish that I was, I got lost in the building layout and knocked again on the same door with the dogs. Thankfully, the owners were not there. I made a smooth exit.
I was happy to have met the people I did. I met an Imam (spiritual leader for Islamic religion), a catalina knight (a rare form of protestant christian), a californian woman open to new ideas, and a old poor woman who lived in a run-down neighborhood and who experienced psychotic and depressive behaviors. Of course I met many more who simply did not care and kept saying NO.
Of all the people I met, the Imam was the first person to invite me into his house, took a book, gave me water and was very sweet. He asked me to come to his mosque to pray which I said I will. I am planning to go tomorrow to his mosque. We exchanged pleasantries in arabic, actually I was showing off my arabic skills whatever little I remembered when I lived in Kuwait. To my surprise, he spoke in arabic when I said I know little arabic...thank God he asked me the one thing I know. So that was good.
Then I met the Catalina Knight. He I have to say was quite the character. He looked straight in my eye and asked "do you follow a particular religion?" and I gave a vague answer like yes and no. He invited me into his house and we must have discussed for at least 30 mins of his religion. He gave me the Bible and asked me to read it which I promptly did and he was talking about his belief etc. He was very proud of his army background from Scotland and that he does not watch tv, listen music and other mundane affairs. Yet there was a huge tv right in the middle of his house and to that he said he watches dvds. Anyways, however I could not help notice on his laptop screen, I saw porn windows flashing and other lewd pictures around the house. After about 30 mins, I decided to do my sales pitch. I was very nice to him that he decided to take a book and donat $1 for it. Happily taking the donation, I bid farewell. Just at that moment, funny enough, the Catalina Knight warned me against knocking on a door just above him and he said, that guy is an imam and that I should stay away from him. I have to say from the conversation with the Knight, there is lot of misconception about muslims and Islam. It is indeed unfortunate!! Anyways, I politely nodded my head not revealing that I already met him.
The best meeting and I would say worth my entire effort was the following two meetings. The californian mother was so open and happy to see me, she invited me into her house and we talked about for 20 mins. She gave her email and phone for us to meet again. Her husband was not home and she wanted to meet again as she said her husband has many questions. We talked about other stuff beyond Krishna and am hoping to meet her again. I gave her 3 books and she donated $2. She wished me luck in my door knocking and I moved from there.
Finally, as I was driving back, I decided to stop in an apartment building which housed society's derelicts such as the drunks, the drug addicts, mentally ill and other psychotic people of society. In fact, I have a friend (who also has mental issues) living in that building. Anyways, I could not get in as it was locked and as I was leaving, I met an older poor woman who was standing with her dog. The dog was totally out of control and was freaking me out. Somehow I maintained my wits and gave a book to the woman. She let me into the building and just as she was about to leave, I explained the nature of this book and its significance. She listened intently. Then I asked her that she should chant Hare Krishna. At first she could not grasp Krishna. I opened the book turned to a page with the mantra and asked her to repeat after me. She dutifully repeated and asked for the meaning. I briefly explained to her the philosophy and I assured her and promised her that this mantra is so powerful that all your desires will be fulfilled and that all your problems will be solved. I saw a sparkle in her eye when I said this. I insisted her to call me. I gave her my phone and email contact. I thought my trip was worth that this poor old woman was lucky to chant Krishna's holy names.
With that, I got into my car and back home. I was hungry and tired by the end of it. I am not sure how frequent I will continue book distribution but I pray Krishna gives me the desire to do so. I hope something more sustainable comes from book distribution. One thing, we never know who will take Krishna and who will not!!

14 December 2011 – Durban, South Africa
Disappearance day of Srila Bhakti Siddhanta Sarasvati Thakur
His father, Srila Bhakti Vinodh Thakur, established the birthplace of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu to be in Sridhama Mayapur. Not everyone was ready to agree with that, particularly the caste goswamis, and the brahmin community in Navadwip was in total disagreement because they claimed the birthplace of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu to be in Navadwip which was making Navadwip very prominent and also making them very prominent. When Srila Bhakti Vinodh Thakur had confirmed the birthplace in Mayapur, he had it confirmed by Jaganath Das Babaji, who was the most respected and prominent vaishnava archarya at that time, so there could be no argument. But still Bhakti Vinodh instructed Bhakti Siddhanta to serve Sridhama Mayapur and he did so by inaugurating the Navadwip Mandal Parikrama, based on the Navadwip Dhama Mahatmya of Srila Bhakti Vinodh Thakur, by physically visiting all the holy places that were identified in the Navadwip Dhama Mahatmya. Srila Bhakti Siddhanta established these holy places as the truth and gradually, in this way, the concept of the holy dhama, as Srila Bhakti Vinodh Thakur revealed it, became established and the glories of Sridhama Mayapur became established as a fact.
So Srila Bhakti Siddhanta spent substantial energy to establish Sridhama Mayapur as the birth-site of Caitanya Mahaprabhu. He also established the entire tour of South India that Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu made by establishing prints of the lotus feet Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu in various places that Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu visited. In this way, making the tour of South India famous and known to all so that if anyone might question: Did Caitanya Mahaprabhu really make that pilgrimage of South India?
Then that question would become totally irrelevant and it would become common knowledge that Caitanya Mahaprabhu was there. That mission is to be completed. Srila Bhakti Siddhanta himself only established 8 such footprints and his disciples later on established some additional. Lokanatha Maharaja established further footprints when Padayatra visited these places. That mission should be completed…
Chanting Hare Krsna is the easiest process by which to become purified, especially in this age, when people are so dull that they cannot very easily understand spiritual knowledge.
If one chants Hare Krsna, then his intelligence becomes purified, and he can understand spiritual things.

(Kadamba Kanana Swami, Mayapur, November 2011) Lecture – Caitanya-caritamrta
I must say in Vrindavan, the presence of Krishna was strongly felt, but even more stronger was the presence of Srila Prabhupada in the Krishna Balaram Mandir. That presence was so strong that actually it touched me so more, than the presence of Krishna in Vrindavan dham.
Within time I became more and more drawn to Gaura-Nitai and to appreciate that Lord Caitanya and Lord Nityananda had appeared there as the forms of Sri Balarama, and Lord Sri Krishna as Srila Prabhupada writes in the purport of Sri Caitanya-caritamrta, and some of my meditation has been like that for so many years.
There was a strong attendance by Vaishnava scholars at this year’s Annual Meeting of the American Academy of Religion, held from November 19th to 22nd in San Francisco.
Though clouds might be lurking in the valley, bright shining stars always punctuate the sky above the village of Saranagati. There are also luminaries found in the valley itself; only they are humans. They are especially the kids. It was my second day for drama workshop with the students at Govardhana Academy. For sure, they shine.
As part of an exercise to learning lines for a drama production, I had them memorize in Sanskrit, another one of my choice verses from the Gita. 9.29 reads like this:
"I envy no one, nor am I partial to anyone. I am equal to all, but whoever renders service unto Me in devotion is a friend, is in Me, and I am also a friend to him."
The contents of this verse leave us with an apparent contradiction, and here is the justification behind the dichotomy that is explained in the commentary by author Srila Prabhupada:
"Any person in this material world may be very charitably disposed, and yet has a special interest in his/her own children. The Lord claims that every living entity - in whatever form - is His child. And so He provides everyone with a generous supply of the necessities of life. But, for His devotees, He gives specific attention."
And here's more to think about:
"When a diamond is set in a golden ring, it looks very nice. The gold is glorified and at the same time the diamond is glorified. The Lord and the living entity eternally glitter, and when the living entity becomes inclined to the service of the Supreme, he looks like gold. The Lord is a diamond, and so this combination is very nice."
May the intent behind this verse and your time and thought to it allow you to glow and become like a star.
Wherever you go in the village of Saranagati, located near the town of Ashcroft in Venables Valley, your likely to roast. That is, inside any of the dozens of homes of its residents, the fire is lit; local wood of pine or fir, has been cut to fit and to power a stove.
I went through a toasty session, a drama workshop, inside Govardhan Academy, the small village school. It was a Krishna Conscious approach to theater for youngsters at age 6 - 15. Outside the quaint building which has everything that deyfies rustic, rural back in the woods Canada, including a phone, computers, toilets, a kitchen and everything modern, there is the raw winter.
After my session with the students, they went outside to experience the "win" out of winter. Unlike Vancouver, anywhere east of the town of Hope, the white and briskness of this season becomes the stark reality.
Nirguna and I craved for that winter flavour, feeling no intimidation whatsoever by the radical change of climate here. We had a purpose in trudging through snow that was falling profusely from the sky. Those wet flakes sent an itchiness to our noses. At the south end of the valley, we came upon a yurt, a circular domed home owned by Stanur, and Narayani and family. It is remotely situated and to drive there you require a good four-wheel-drive vehicle with either snow tires or tires with a snug chain wrapped around them in order to grip the snow.
Because we began to walk the trail at 9pm-after a group reading about saint Bhaktisiddhanta, we would have been groping around in darkness. A small flashlight and the pervasive snow with some moon effect, lit up the way for us.
Our final destination on this quiet trek was a visit to an aging cow, Gopi. Under a sheltered cowshed, with her only attendant being a sound recording of our guru, Srila Prabhupada, singing in solemnity. She was practically non-responsive to our touch of farewell. It became apparent that the only thing that will be moving for her would be her soul. Our guesstimation was that it would be only hours, or minutes before she would take that journey.
An excellent video detailing the history of education as it was funded by the Rockefeller foundation to stop all education for the purpose of intellectual advancement. Instead, a systematic type of education was created to produce human drones with no critical thinking, and whose only skills are to be subservient, trust authority, and follow orders. These educational methods are based on the animal behavorial sciences of Ivan Pavlov’s German Science guru.

At times I am in a lot of anxiety when I cannot complete my rounds on time or my japa is pending while other work is piling up. Also because of this anxiety a lot of arguments happen. At times even I don't realize why I manifest such behavior, but when I sit down calmly I understand that I did not get sufficient time for my daily sadhana (devotional practices). How to deal with such anxiety? Is such anxiety correct? My household chores are also allotted by Krishna. So why should there be such anxiety? I have been in the Krishna consciousness movement for quite a few years, but I still cannot control my anxiety. Please help me. Your servant, RV Answer: Prioritize Krishna More than Eating Somehow in spite of our busy schedules we always find time to eat, no matter how busy we are, because we give top priority to our eating. In the same way, if you will prioritize your 16 rounds as more important than your eating, they will be the first thing that you will accomplish every day, even if you have to postpone your eating. In this way, your sadhana will always be at the center of your life, and you will always be happy.
