Prema-Rupa dd, USA: Apparently people read this?I havent written in this blog in over a year. Its a shame really because I really like writing and storytelling. My problem is simply that Im lazy and I guess I assume that if anyone wanted to know what was going on with me, they would just add me on Facebook. But in this year I was so surprised at the amount of devotees that approached me and wanted to know what happened to my blog, maybe they’re waiting on tutorials or for me to tell more stories. People I would never expect! So maybe I’ll give it a go again. In this year I would say that I’ve been pretty busy. I spent five months in Sri Mayapur Dham studying in their Pujari Training Course at Mayapur Academy. And since coming back at the end of March I moved to Miami, Florida and jumped right into being a full-time pujari taking care of the large-and-in-charge Lord Jagannath, Baladev and Lady Subhadra. So I have a whole bunch of pics from Mayapur. I cant stop thinking about Mayapur. Its all I ever talk about and think about. You know what’s horrible? When I was in Mayapur, I couldn’t wait to come back to the US. Now Im here and I remember all the wonderful memories I had there and I’m dying to go back. The things that used to annoy me so much makes me laugh now. Darshans I used to shrug my shoulders at I now reverently observe though my computer screen. The peace and quite I begged for in the crowds of people, now replaced by an empty loneliness. I remember walking around and laughing with my friends. I miss being able to eat anything anywhere and never wonder about meat, eggs, fish, onion, garlic. I would chant in Panchatattva’s temple room in the evenings- pacing back and forth, begging to be Their instrument. I used to get knocked over by egar Bengali women trying to take Darshan of Radha-Madhava. I seriously miss mahaprasadam french fries. Something that good should be illegal. I used to ride my bicycle on the Main Road and nearly kill myself, but I would just jump back on again and speed toward Deity greeting. I miss rikshaw rides. I miss the boat between Mayapur and Navadwip Ghat. I miss Navawip, even though its a little ghetto and scary. I miss the house my husband and I are building together. I miss the headache. The heartache. And, yes, even the occasional stomach-ache. I miss sleeping in through mangal-arati with my husband and we both wake up in time to listen to the morning announcements on the radio. I miss the familiar faces. I miss that Krishna is part of a regular routine. I left since the end of March. But I still, really really miss Mayapur.          • Email to a friend •  •H.G. Living in Wales especially in the valley communities there is a closeness and understanding of history with many instances imprinted in the welsh psyche. A few days ago I was talking to an ex-miner, who also worked in the mining rescue service and fire service within the local community I live in. He recounted the distress of carrying dead bodies out the mine, the anguish of the families and the personal effect it has had on him. He was in some ways sad to see so many mines close but also happy in as much as there would not be so much loss of life and prayed that there will be no more loss of life here in wales due to mining. A few days later and the sad news came of another mining accident, the news that four miners remained trapped you could not but be moved by there plight and that of the family.
(Taken from BBC News, Welsh Mine Tragedy) Today the news slowly came out as the mining rescue team and rescue services gave press release, we waited with bated breath at the news hoping and praying that it would be good; but sadness and shock as with each news release it was to tell us that they had found a body of one of the missing. The loss of a loved one is always hard, even more so in tragic circumstances as this and given how close knit the Welsh communities are there will be a lot simply hurting, lamenting the loss of someone in the community. It is nice that in times like this we take comfort and solace from the words of the Gita which gives this profound statement on the loss of a loved one: If one’s son has died, one may certainly be affected by lamentation and illusion and cry for the dead son, but one may overcome lamentation and illusion by considering the verses of Bhagavad-gita. Shortly thereafter, I began working with Gopalasyapriya at the Palace gardens. Anybody who picks flowers should know the process from beginning to end. It takes weeding in icy sleet and cold rain; preparing the soil by wheelbarowing loads of mushroom manure to enrich the soil, and sweating in the greenhouse while sorting through all the Canna Lillies, starting the seeds and transplanting them into flats, then the final process of transplanting into the prepared beds. Having gone through all these processes, I can fully appreciate picking and making garlands for the Deities. The peak experience of picking culminated at the Puspa Abhisheka, when I watched the Pujaris pour Queen Anne’s Lace and many other flowers over Sri Sri Radha Vrndavana and then the other Pujaris throw the petals in the air at the feet of the Deities. I also have the pleasure of picking from neighboring gardens and along the lake the beautiful vase flowers, some that I’ve nicknamed “swan weed.” I meditate on Srila Prabhupada’s statement that Krsna appreciates what is grown and picked locally 100 times more than commercially grown and purchased garland and vase flowers. Along with picking, I’ve increased my service to several lengthy and small garlands and know the difference between grabbing a handful of purchased carnations and roses to quickly string the bigger garlands and picking the seasonal peonies and pom-pom marigold appropriate for the length and the size of the Deity. I counsel the other garland makes to be patient with me as I try my best to facilitate everybody’s needs and make the garlands the right size and to provide everybody with enough flowers. The ultimate joy of picking is being engaged in Srimate Tulasi Devi’s service to pick her leaves and manjaris. I travel to a different plane when I capture the clove-like scent of the freshly picked manjaris. There will only be a few short weeks left that I can relish this service, therefore I humbly seek the positive feedback of the Deities and devotees while I continue to pick, and view the world as a giant petal tray and flower garland. • Email to a friend • •Madhava Ghosh dasa, New Vrndavan, USA: Veterans, Politicians Team Up in Battle to Change Energy PolicyBy Steve Leone It was 1996 and Rear Adm. Larry Baucom had a job to do. His mission: Protect American oil interests in the Persian Gulf. Even with the backdrop of peace, Baucom understood this was a costly endeavor. While the price of military intervention is often measured in American lives, in this case it was the staggering amount of American dollars that most clearly made his point. In today's dollars, keeping just one of America's 11 aircraft carriers fully operational for a year costs about $400 million. Often times, that is the role the military plays — keep the shipping lanes open and keep the oil flowing. To Baucom, it's just another of the many hidden costs of maintaining our current energy needs, and it's an argument that is usually lost amid the debate on subsidies and government support. Baucom, now retired, is adamant that America's dependence on foreign oil — relatively unchanged over the past three decades — undermines our national security and our ability to dictate our energy future. He argues that climate change will ultimately result in more natural disasters, more famine and more global instability, and that too will require more American military intervention. The former fighter pilot and current Pentagon consultant was among those pushing a renewable energy agenda Wednesday in Concord, N.H., a state capital that will hold significant political sway during the upcoming First in the Nation Presidential Primary. The event was hosted by Operation Free, a coalition of military veterans and groups with national security interests focused on breaking America's reliance on fossil fuels. Baucom was joined onstage by an unlikely figure in an effort to redefine government policy in favor of renewable forms of energy. Last November, Republican State Sen. Gary Lambert was part of the nation's dramatic rightward shift during the midterm elections. Now Lambert, a self-described strong conservative and the first Republican to win his district in 95 years, is facing stiff political pressure from his own party for his support of the carbon cap-and-trade program known as the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) and for his stance that the country should invest public money to support the growth of renewable forms of energy. "Getting GOP support [on energy policy not based on domestic drilling] is a difficult sell," Lambert said Wednesday, the same day he successfully blocked a Republican-led effort to pull the state out of RGGI. "I'm a conservative on a lot of issues, but there's a camp out there that says that if the free market doesn't control energy, we don't want to have anything to do with it." The notion of over-reliance on foreign oil has always carried weight within the Republican Party. The issue, however, has largely been answered by a call to increase domestic drilling. That, he says, is a fallacy that scores easy political points but falls short as a feasible solution. Lambert notes that the U.S. consumes a quarter of the world's oil output while holding three percent of the known reserves. "We cannot drill our way out," he said. Instead, he says his party needs to take the lead on energy security, and it needs to do it by promoting renewable energy as a job creator and as a sustainable solution to the country's energy needs. But does his party see it that way? "I'm not seeing a lot of momentum," said Lambert. "What really concerns me as a Republican is that the Democrats have stolen this issue from us. And there's no reason for them to do that. This is about America's future. This is about national security. We should be out on the lead with this." Both Baucom and Lambert have had extensive military careers and each has been involved in numerous foreign conflicts. They both painted a stark picture of the current landscape, the potentially volatile times ahead and the role the military gain play in leading change. Among the points they made:
Strides Already Made There has already been a change — or an order, if you will — that has come from the highest levels of the Pentagon. While the shift hasn't necessarily resonated politically, Baucom says it has been noticed by the rank and file members of the military.’ "I think there's a growing pride," said Baucom. "Sailors are proud that we don't throw trash in ocean anymore, we don't pollute as much as we used to and we have a lessening impact on the environment." At Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada, most of the energy output comes from a solar installation while at a Navy and Marine training facility at Dam Neck, Va., about half the power comes from geothermal sources. On the same day as the press conference, the Department of Energy announced a deal to install solar panels at 160,000 rooftop locations at military bases in 33 states. In August, the military announced a plan to install large-scale renewable energy projects on its lands to meet a goal of drawing 25% of electricity from clean sources by 2025. Even more potential comes from biofuels that will be used by the Air Force and the Navy. Also in August, President Obama announced a federal investment of $510 million over three years to produce advanced drop-in aviation and marine biofuels. The goal is that by 2016, all military fuel will be blended with 50 percent biofuel. That type of progress brings Baucom back to his days as a fighter pilot. "When I used to fly F-14s, I'd go through 2,000 gallons of jet fuel in 15 minutes in full afterburner. That's a lot of foreign oil to go through. This sounded very inspirational to me as should be for every chanter. The ultimate goal of life is pure love for Krsna and is to remember Him at the time of death and this devotee surely was thinking of the Lord and meditating on His names, this is a very auspicious death and we all would like to remember Krsna like he did. I pray so every devotee does that and that my chanting becomes stronger and my faith in the Holy names improve. More glorifications BY SRUTAKRITI DASA I received the most disturbing news that our Godbrother, Gopiparanadhana prabhu left his body a few hours ago here in Govardhan.
I've just returned from his house, which is next door to Iskcon Govardhan Mandir. I will give a short report here as told by his wife. He was seen early in the morning and was 'fine'. One devotee was waiting for an hour to see him. When he finally got in his place he found him lying on the floor and probably been there for a few hours…..
His wife told me that he had just returned from the Polish festival and in two days he was going to China. Krsna arranged for him to leave his body here, at his home in Govardhan. She told me yesterday a black snake came up to the door and Gopi simply closed the door on it. She sees it as Krsna's messenger. It certainly could have been an asthma attack but no analysis has been done yet as the police hadn't yet arrived.
His body was almost straight on the floor of his room. He was lying on his back and would be in a dandavat position with his left side facing Govardhan Hill. I was his first Godbrother in the room and after a few minutes chanted Nrsingha prayers. Looking around his small room I saw the following on his desk. Also on his desk was a large copy of Upanisadbhasyam and two books in Chinese, at least one of them was a Chinese/English Dictionary.

Let start by offering my obeisances to him. Srila Prabhupada said that living and dying in the dham is the same. He left from Govardhan and went back to Spiritual world. His destination is auspicious. Of this we can rejoice. At the same time loosing him suddenly like this leaves us in separation and is a big lost. My last meeting with him was in the month of April 2011 at Vrinda Kunda. We had a long chat together. HG Gopipranadana Prabhu was one of a few accomplished devotees in sanskrit and dedicated himself for translating books that Srila Prabhupad had indicated for translation.

I first met Gopiparanadhana Prabhu in 1979 in LA. We spent time together here in Bangalore from 1981-83 while he was working on the translation of the rest of the Bhagavatam. Over the years we had a nice friendship. He didn't have a mean bone in his whole body and was incapable of offending any one; he had such humility and kindness in him.
