Prema-Rupa dd, USA: Apparently people read this?

I havent written in this blog in over a year. Its a shame really because I really like writing and storytelling. My problem is simply that Im lazy and I guess I assume that if anyone wanted to know what was going on with me, they would just add me on Facebook. But in this year I was so surprised at the amount of devotees that approached me and wanted to know what happened to my blog, maybe they’re waiting on tutorials or for me to tell more stories. People I would never expect! So maybe I’ll give it a go again.

In this year I would say that I’ve been pretty busy. I spent five months in Sri Mayapur Dham studying in their Pujari Training Course at Mayapur Academy. And since coming back at the end of March I moved to Miami, Florida and jumped right into being a full-time pujari taking care of the large-and-in-charge Lord Jagannath, Baladev and Lady Subhadra.

So I have a whole bunch of pics from Mayapur. I cant stop thinking about Mayapur. Its all I ever talk about and think about. You know what’s horrible? When I was in Mayapur, I couldn’t wait to come back to the US. Now Im here and I remember all the wonderful memories I had there and I’m dying to go back. The things that used to annoy me so much makes me laugh now. Darshans I used to shrug my shoulders at I now reverently observe though my computer screen. The peace and quite I begged for in the crowds of people, now replaced by an empty loneliness. I remember walking around and laughing with my friends. I miss being able to eat anything anywhere and never wonder about meat, eggs, fish, onion, garlic. I would chant in Panchatattva’s temple room in the evenings- pacing back and forth, begging to be Their instrument. I used to get knocked over by egar Bengali women trying to take Darshan of Radha-Madhava. I seriously miss mahaprasadam french fries. Something that good should be illegal. I used to ride my bicycle on the Main Road and nearly kill myself, but I would just jump back on again and speed toward Deity greeting. I miss rikshaw rides. I miss the boat between Mayapur and Navadwip Ghat. I miss Navawip, even though its a little ghetto and scary. I miss the house my husband and I are building together. I miss the headache. The heartache. And, yes, even the occasional stomach-ache. I miss sleeping in through mangal-arati with my husband and we both wake up in time to listen to the morning announcements on the radio. I miss the familiar faces. I miss that Krishna is part of a regular routine.

I left since the end of March. But I still, really really miss Mayapur.

And conversely, if we engage our passion in the service of the Lord, our kama, our lustful tendency to enjoy this material world, will be transformed back into prema, pure love of God. This should be the goal of everyone here in this material world, if they want to attain true, lasting happiness. Sankarshan Das Adhikari Answers by Citing the Vedic Version: Question: How to Tolerate Dualities? Gurudeva, Namaste. I would like to ask following question: How to develop capacity to withstand dualities such as heat and cold or pleasure and pain? Janardan M. Answer: Take Shelter of Krishna If you will take shelter of Krishna in all circumstances, you will not be disturbed by the always present dualities of the material nature. Akrura das, Gita Coaching: OUTSIDE AND INSIDE

Do not hear from mouths of persons lacking proper conduct.

If your conduct is below par you should not publicly preach about the Lord.

Close the door and preach to yourself.

David Haslam, UK: Thoughts on today's Welsh Mining Tragedy

Share

Living in Wales especially in the valley communities there is a closeness and understanding of history with many instances imprinted in the welsh psyche.

A few days ago I was talking to an ex-miner, who also worked in the mining rescue service and fire service within the local community I live in. He recounted the distress of carrying dead bodies out the mine, the anguish of the families and the personal effect it has had on him. He was in some ways sad to see so many mines close but also happy in as much as there would not be so much loss of life and prayed that there will be no more loss of life here in wales due to mining.

A few days later and the sad news came of another mining accident, the news that four miners remained trapped you could not but be moved by there plight and that of the family.

(Taken from BBC News, Welsh Mine Tragedy)

Today the news slowly came out as the mining rescue team and rescue services gave press release, we waited with bated breath at the news hoping and praying that it would be good; but sadness and shock as with each news release it was to tell us that they had found a body of one of the missing.

The loss of a loved one is always hard, even more so in tragic circumstances as this and given how close knit the Welsh communities are there will be a lot simply hurting, lamenting the loss of someone in the community.

It is nice that in times like this we take comfort and solace from the words of the Gita which gives this profound statement on the loss of a loved one:

If one’s son has died, one may certainly be affected by lamentation and illusion and cry for the dead son, but one may overcome lamentation and illusion by considering the verses of Bhagavad-gita.
jatasya hi dhruvo mrtyur
dhruvam janma mrtasya ca
As the soul transmigrates, one who has taken birth must give up the present body, and then he must certainly accept another body. This should be no cause for lamentation. Therefore Lord Krsna says, dhiras tatra na muhyati: [Bg. 2.13] one who is dhira, or sober, who is learned in philosophy and established in knowledge, cannot be unhappy over the transmigration of the soul.

SB 7.15.23

My thoughts and prays go out to the families at this time, and hope that they too can find comfort in these simple words from the Gita.

Japa Group: Pray For Help

Today is another Japa Room session and I reflect on the past week of my own Japa. Chanting Japa is dynamic....some days we are fully concentrated and some days we are distracted and not giving due respect to the Holy names. Today was a day of concentration for me - I recite a prayer to my Deities each day....asking the Lord to help my family and myself to chant with devotion and to protect us and bestow upon us attraction and attachment to chanting.

In the Japa Room we have been encouraging everyone to compose such a prayer and to continue to recite that prayer each day - the power of prayer cannot be understated - after all, the Hare Krsna is a powerful prayer asking the Lord to engage us in devotional service and so our own prayer can be powerful if we recite it with concentration and devotion.

Please join us this week in the Japa Room at www.mayapur.tv - click on the channel "TheJapaRoom" - here are the times for both sessions.

Toronto Sankirtan Team, CA: Miseries of life

I met a student from Ryerson and he said he was not interested in yoga at all. I still showed him the Bhakti yoga and he told me it was no use for him and asked me why he should get it. Then I remembered what I had read in Vijaya prabhu newsletter about Srila Prabhupada asking us to preach directly. Prabhupada said you should tell people these books will teach you how to get over the miseries of life. So building up strength, I told him these books teach you how to get over the miseries of life. I told him you are so young but you know what stress and anxiety is – these books teach you how to get over it. Surprisingly he took the book and then I spent the rest of the day telling people to get Srila Prbhupada books as they will teach you how to get over the miseries of life.

Toronto Sankirtan Team, CA: A second meeting

A few months ago I met three girls during the Pride parade in Toronto. One of them was aware of the Krishna book and had read it before. They were really young and in high school but all three of them very enthusiastically took a book each. Today at Ryerson University I met one of them again and she started to talk to me. She was surprised I remembered and I was too. She was so excited to meet me again because she had already read the Bhakti yoga she had bought. She said she liked it very much and it was a very refreshing read. She and her friend wanted to come see us and were surprised to run into me. I told her if she read the Bhakti yoga then she should read the Bhagavad Gita. I explained some of the pictures in there. While she really appreciated the pictures she said she didn't have money. I kept on showing her and then she said she had just 5 dollars to buy a text book from someone but that other person was late. So she gave me the text book money and said she would come for the gita discussion.

New Vrndavan, USA: Picking Flowers For Krishna

by Jayadevi dasi

I suppose Krsna heard me when I told Jaya Krsna that I loved gardening, and he said I had come to the right place. Shortly thereafter, I began working with Gopalasyapriya at the Palace gardens.

Anybody who picks flowers should know the process from beginning to end. It takes weeding in icy sleet and cold rain; preparing the soil by wheelbarowing loads of mushroom manure to enrich the soil, and sweating in the greenhouse while sorting through all the Canna Lillies, starting the seeds and transplanting them into flats, then the final process of transplanting into the prepared beds.

Having gone through all these processes, I can fully appreciate picking and making garlands for the Deities. The peak experience of picking culminated at the Puspa Abhisheka, when I watched the Pujaris pour Queen Anne’s Lace  and many other flowers over Sri Sri Radha Vrndavana and then the other Pujaris throw the petals in the air at the feet of the Deities.

I also have the pleasure of picking from neighboring gardens and along the lake the beautiful vase flowers, some that I’ve nicknamed “swan weed.” I meditate on Srila Prabhupada’s statement that Krsna appreciates what is grown and picked locally 100 times more than commercially grown and purchased garland and vase flowers.

Along with picking, I’ve increased my service to several lengthy and small garlands and know the difference between grabbing a handful of purchased carnations and roses to quickly string the bigger garlands and picking the seasonal peonies and pom-pom marigold appropriate for the length and the size of the Deity. I counsel the other garland makes to be patient with me as I try my best to facilitate everybody’s needs and make the garlands the right size and to provide everybody with enough flowers.

The ultimate joy of picking is being engaged in Srimate Tulasi Devi’s service to pick her leaves and manjaris. I travel to a different plane when I capture the clove-like scent of the freshly picked manjaris. There will only be a few short weeks left that I can relish this service, therefore I humbly seek the positive feedback of the Deities and devotees while I continue to pick, and view the world as a giant petal tray and flower garland.

Madhava Ghosh dasa, New Vrndavan, USA: Veterans, Politicians Team Up in Battle to Change Energy Policy

By Steve Leone

It was 1996 and Rear Adm. Larry Baucom had a job to do. His mission: Protect American oil interests in the Persian Gulf. Even with the backdrop of peace, Baucom understood this was a costly endeavor.

While the price of military intervention is often measured in American lives, in this case it was the staggering amount of American dollars that most clearly made his point. In today's dollars, keeping just one of America's 11 aircraft carriers fully operational for a year costs about $400 million. Often times, that is the role the military plays — keep the shipping lanes open and keep the oil flowing. To Baucom, it's just another of the many hidden costs of maintaining our current energy needs, and it's an argument that is usually lost amid the debate on subsidies and government support.

Baucom, now retired, is adamant that America's dependence on foreign oil — relatively unchanged over the past three decades — undermines our national security and our ability to dictate our energy future. He argues that climate change will ultimately result in more natural disasters, more famine and more global instability, and that too will require more American military intervention.

The former fighter pilot and current Pentagon consultant was among those pushing a renewable energy agenda Wednesday in Concord, N.H., a state capital that will hold significant political sway during the upcoming First in the Nation Presidential Primary.

The event was hosted by Operation Free, a coalition of military veterans and groups with national security interests focused on breaking America's reliance on fossil fuels. Baucom was joined onstage by an unlikely figure in an effort to redefine government policy in favor of renewable forms of energy. Last November, Republican State Sen. Gary Lambert was part of the nation's dramatic rightward shift during the midterm elections. Now Lambert, a self-described strong conservative and the first Republican to win his district in 95 years, is facing stiff political pressure from his own party for his support of the carbon cap-and-trade program known as the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) and for his stance that the country should invest public money to support the growth of renewable forms of energy.

"Getting GOP support [on energy policy not based on domestic drilling] is a difficult sell," Lambert said Wednesday, the same day he successfully blocked a Republican-led effort to pull the state out of RGGI. "I'm a conservative on a lot of issues, but there's a camp out there that says that if the free market doesn't control energy, we don't want to have anything to do with it."

The notion of over-reliance on foreign oil has always carried weight within the Republican Party. The issue, however, has largely been answered by a call to increase domestic drilling. That, he says, is a fallacy that scores easy political points but falls short as a feasible solution. Lambert notes that the U.S. consumes a quarter of the world's oil output while holding three percent of the known reserves. "We cannot drill our way out," he said.

Instead, he says his party needs to take the lead on energy security, and it needs to do it by promoting renewable energy as a job creator and as a sustainable solution to the country's energy needs. But does his party see it that way?

"I'm not seeing a lot of momentum," said Lambert. "What really concerns me as a Republican is that the Democrats have stolen this issue from us. And there's no reason for them to do that. This is about America's future. This is about national security. We should be out on the lead with this."

Both Baucom and Lambert have had extensive military careers and each has been involved in numerous foreign conflicts. They both painted a stark picture of the current landscape, the potentially volatile times ahead and the role the military gain play in leading change.

Among the points they made:

  • Addiction to foreign oil and climate change are national security threats that are now spelled out in our national military strategy.
  • Dependence on foreign oil funnels money into regimes that often are not friendly to the United States, and some of that money likely ends up with the very terrorists that are targeting American forces.
  • The Department of Defense is the largest single consumer of oil in the United States, accounting for 93 percent of all the federal energy consumption at 340,000 barrels of oil a day.
  • Fuel convoys are ripe targets in war-torn areas, and using renewable technology like solar power gives a tactical advantage that will ultimately save lives.

Strides Already Made

There has already been a change — or an order, if you will — that has come from the highest levels of the Pentagon. While the shift hasn't necessarily resonated politically, Baucom says it has been noticed by the rank and file members of the military.’

"I think there's a growing pride," said Baucom. "Sailors are proud that we don't throw trash in ocean anymore, we don't pollute as much as we used to and we have a lessening impact on the environment."

At Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada, most of the energy output comes from a solar installation while at a Navy and Marine training facility at Dam Neck, Va., about half the power comes from geothermal sources. On the same day as the press conference, the Department of Energy announced a deal to install solar panels at 160,000 rooftop locations at military bases in 33 states.

In August, the military announced a plan to install large-scale renewable energy projects on its lands to meet a goal of drawing 25% of electricity from clean sources by 2025.

Even more potential comes from biofuels that will be used by the Air Force and the Navy. Also in August, President Obama announced a federal investment of $510 million over three years to produce advanced drop-in aviation and marine biofuels. The goal is that by 2016, all military fuel will be blended with 50 percent biofuel.

That type of progress brings Baucom back to his days as a fighter pilot. "When I used to fly F-14s, I'd go through 2,000 gallons of jet fuel in 15 minutes in full afterburner. That's a lot of foreign oil to go through. Cut that in half, and it's a step in the right direction."

Credit

Saint Johns, Newfoundland

There was an incredible transmission of spiritual wisdom taking place at the Lotus Centre, a place where yogis, thinkers and dharmic people come to listen and learn. Townies (folks from town) and baymen (folks from outside of town) came to listen on the topic of spiritual leadership.

"If you want to be a leader, then you get the opportunity to control, but that control begins with your senses." Now, I cannot take credit for expressing these words, nor for anything else I said to the group of about 20 people. Opening the talk with invocational Sanskrit mantras, I translated in a gist fashion, "credit goes to the great masters of the past, who transferred information through the generations."

I then proceeded to describe that a leader in spiritual consciousness must at least follow dharma and demonstrate the highest level of morality. But the group looked at what dharma truly is, being the essence of a thing. We contemplated on Sanatan dharma, the essence of the soul. After quizzing the group, the answers they came up with were 'pure', 'love', and more. I asked for "what is the soul's function?" and someone said, "service", which received a number of approving nods from the group. Someone also wanted to know about karma, so we discussed. I made reference to the Bhagavad-gita as the source of all this wisdom.

One woman in the group said that she just purchased a Gita on a recent trip to Ottawa. She asked me if I would look at her copy and verify it to be a decent translation. She went to her purse and showed me her copy of Bhagavad-gita As It Is. I simply endorsed it by saying my guru translated it and puts emphasis on bhakti, or devotion. We commenced the talk with kirtan (chanting) and finished with it. Jeff is a great mrdanga player, which added so much to the joy of the evening.

Like so many stories from the Bhagavatam texts where sage and king interact, we read about how two travelling monks, Narada and Angira, stopped in on King Chitraketu, who was in a state of depression. The monks were there to console him. The cause of his grief was the loss of a son who was poisoned, a plot by jealous stepmothers. The king was devastated, as you can imagine.

After a great endeavour to have progeny, one Queen was able to deliver a child, but destiny had it that healthy young boy was not to live long. The king and his wife were thrilled at the birth of thier son, but then circumstances threw them into sorrow. The utter reality was staring at the dual nature of the world.

Sages were meant to travel, to go about and encourage people in the message of transcendence, to assist individuals in seeing the bigger picture. The truth of seeing this bigger picture, a journey we go through, stretching from time immemorial, to the present and beyond, is a difficult one to swallow. We come here encased in a body for an X number of years to learn many lessons. The pressing pursuit towards happiness in this material world, is concluded with some results, some good and some bad. It gets frustrating. This world is frustrating. The interaction with people is frustrating. Our endeavours are best situated in giving attention to the Supreme, to surrendering.

Our delineation over the story, and the message of the sages, was our topic for discussion at our morning Bhagavatam class. A dozen or so of us were sitting at the south east corner of the temple room, a practice we go through daily which helps the speaker and the listener gain a sense of focus on Krishna, ultimately.

I reminded myself that this is a fixation for me as I prepare myself for a journey of going about to encourage people (as Narada and Angira did) in the direction of surrender. Tomorrow I meet Jeff, the first of several brahmacharis (monks) accompanying me in the mission, as I will walk, and they, distribute precious books in the message of the Bhagavatam.

For walking I had another day of 10 km.

Three Dudes

Toronto, Ontario

There was an outburst after the lights went on. Balloons popped and coloured large cut confetti exploded in the air. Happy faces were in my face. My birthday? No! I asked one of the participants the reason for this.

"It's a send-off party for your walk," said she. Needless to say, it was a well concealed party - an utter surprise. A kirtan burst out. Drums beat to a thumping volume. Appreciations were expressed with the main message being, "Happy Trails for a Fourth Walk". The prasadam food was scrumptious. It was intense trying to eat the best meal of your life. And when the party was over, I put on my sneakers for a trek down the ravine. As has been habit as of late, I took to a trail at 10 pm, tire myself out and then go for a sound sleep.

But this night before 'hitting the sack' I met three rowdy young dudes. After a serene trek through a ravine, I heard howling and growling near Summerhill subway station. Out came the three at the station when one of the guys remarked upon seeing me.

"Hallowe'en? It's too early."

"Actually, I'm a monk. " This calmed them somewhat.

"What can you teach us... lesson number one?" said another, slightly slurred.

"Take care of yourself, especially your atma, your soul."

"How long have you been into this?"

"Since '73"

One fellow only heard the word '73 and he asked, "Are you '73?" I joked along with them, "Are you saying I'm 73?"

"No! No! No!"

"Acutally, I'm just a monk. I'm a pilgrim. I'll be starting up a 4th walk across Canada in three days starting from Cape Spear, Newfoundland."

"I just came from there," said one of the dudes totally awestruck and taking this to be all too mystical. I would say the three dudes sobered up quite a bit except for one of them. He went back to howling. He didn't pay heed to lesson one.

7.5 Km

Japa Group: Remembering Krsna

Hare Krsna dear devotees. Today I saw a message about the death of a very nice devotee of the Lord. According to this message, it's said he was with his beads, chanting when he died.

This sounded very inspirational to me as should be for every chanter. The ultimate goal of life is pure love for Krsna and is to remember Him at the time of death and this devotee surely was thinking of the Lord and meditating on His names, this is a very auspicious death and we all would like to remember Krsna like he did. I pray so every devotee does that and that my chanting becomes stronger and my faith in the Holy names improve.

I wish you all a wonderful end of week and that the holy names give you lots of nice realisations.

your servant,

Aruna devi

ISKCON Malaysia: Puspanjali for Gopipranadhana Prabhu at BCC, Prai

BY SANTI VARDHANA CAITANYA DASA

Bhakti Madhurya Govinda Goswami gave a lecture on the wonderful Vaishnava qualities of Gopipranadhana Prabhu during the Srimad Bhagavatam class in Bhaktivedanta Cultural Center (BCC), Prai.

Maharaja explained how even though HG Gopipranadhana Prabhu was the most super-excellent scholar, he was the most humble person, always ready to offer ALL respects to every devotee and NOT expecting and honor from anyone. These are just some of his wonderful Vaishnava character.

Maharaja lamented how, ISKCON had lost a great Vaisnava scholar and a devotee. Many scholar came come in future but will they have the same humility and sublime character as HG Gopipranadhana Prabhu Maharaja wondered.

"Gopi"? (Gopiparanadhana prabhu). Oh, no! Surely there is some terrible mistake! Not Gopi! Oh no; surely it is just a nasty, irresponsible rumor—that Gopi has left us! But no; only about an hour after receiving this terrible news, it is confirmed. Gopi has left us! Oh Radhe! Oh Krishna! Oh, why? Why do you take away such a sweet and valuable devotee from our association? Oh why?

In these ways Maharaja described many wonderful qualities of Gopipranadhana Prabhu

Later at noon, we had prasadam offering to the picture of Gopipranadhana Prabhu, puspanjali and Guru puja. Siva Caitanya dasa lead a ecstatic kirtana in glorification of Gopipranadhana Prabhu.

More glorifications

BY SRUTAKRITI DASA

I received the most disturbing news that our Godbrother, Gopiparanadhana prabhu left his body a few hours ago here in Govardhan.

I've just returned from his house, which is next door to Iskcon Govardhan Mandir. I will give a short report here as told by his wife. He was seen early in the morning and was 'fine'. One devotee was waiting for an hour to see him. When he finally got in his place he found him lying on the floor and probably been there for a few hours…..

His wife told me that he had just returned from the Polish festival and in two days he was going to China. Krsna arranged for him to leave his body here, at his home in Govardhan. She told me yesterday a black snake came up to the door and Gopi simply closed the door on it. She sees it as Krsna's messenger. It certainly could have been an asthma attack but no analysis has been done yet as the police hadn't yet arrived.

His body was almost straight on the floor of his room. He was lying on his back and would be in a dandavat position with his left side facing Govardhan Hill. I was his first Godbrother in the room and after a few minutes chanted Nrsingha prayers. Looking around his small room I saw the following on his desk. A framed picture with the following words:
"Do not hear from mouths of persons lacking proper conduct. If your conduct is below par you should not publicly preach about the Lord. Close the door and preach to yourself. Bhajan really begins when one's outside and inside are the same."

Also on his desk was a large copy of Upanisadbhasyam and two books in Chinese, at least one of them was a Chinese/English Dictionary.

BY JAYAPATAKA SWAMI

Let start by offering my obeisances to him. Srila Prabhupada said that living and dying in the dham is the same. He left from Govardhan and went back to Spiritual world. His destination is auspicious. Of this we can rejoice. At the same time loosing him suddenly like this leaves us in separation and is a big lost. My last meeting with him was in the month of April 2011 at Vrinda Kunda. We had a long chat together. HG Gopipranadana Prabhu was one of a few accomplished devotees in sanskrit and dedicated himself for translating books that Srila Prabhupad had indicated for translation.

He was one of the lead member of the team that completed Srimad Bhagavatam that was so dear to Srila Prabhupada. He also translated Brihad Bhagavatamrta with purports. I dont know what other books he had in the pipeline. He was also training up other devotees in sanskrit to carry out this important service. One time he was contemplating moving to Mayapur but his heart was still in Govardhan. His classes were very scholarly and to the point. His association was mature and refreshing. Recently I passed through Hong Kong and met a chinese devotee who had taken initiation from him. How expansive his preaching was, I have only a glimpse.

I want to offer pushpanjali flowers at his lotus feet during this auspicious occassion of smrti sabha. There are many more advance devotees who probably have much more to say. This time our hearts reach up to his wife and child who are left behind to carry out his great legacy. I take this opportunity to offer sraddhanjali. All glories to HG Gopipranadana Prabhu! All glories to Srila Prabhupada!

Godbrother Sriman Gopiparanadhana Prabhu at Govardhana. They bade his body at about 3:00 PM; offered bhoga and arati to him and with the kirtan procession carried his body on the Govardhana Parikrama marg, passed by Manasi Ganga, to the cremation place. Many local residents, especially in the first beginning stretch, were stepping out of their shop or home and offering their humble respect to him.

At the cremation place they laid down his body on cow dung patties, of course from the cows of Vraja. They put more patties on the side and the top until his body was fully covered. His teenage son was the first one to light the funeral fire. After that I also lit the fire and many others did this.

The cool and gentle breeze was flowing from the Kusum Sarovar's side which was helping in fanning the fire. While kirtan was going on we started circumambulating the fire. Suddenly it started to rain gently, which was amazing and auspicious.

There were about 100 devotees, Prabhus and Matajis, in attendance. Several senior devotees were present, like Sruta Kirti Prabhu, Panca Gaura Prabhu, Kratu Prabhu, Radha Raman Swami, Janardana Prabhu, etc. Devotees traveled from nearby places, especially from New Delhi.

In the past Gopiparanadhana Prabhu had disclosed his will in person to his wife that his ashes to be put in Samadhi at the foothill of Govardhana, across the ISKCON Bhaktivedanta Ashram Govardhana project, next to Padmalochan Prabhu's Puspa Samadhi.

Tomorrow morning, 16th September, at 8:00 AM his remembrance and glorification has been scheduled in Krishna Balarama temple in Vrindavan.

O He Vaishnava Thakur!

I never met you and now I will not be able to behold you in your wondrous glory of serving Srila Prabhupada always shining as you are with the fine intellect that Shri Krishna gifted you with. You were the shelter of ISKCON's upcoming generation of intellectuals and brahmanas, a thoroughly devoted soul who only knew Srila Prabhupada as your Loving Guide and Eternal Father. I always think of you as Srila Prabhupada's pure devotee, completely unmotivated by any sense of personal gratification, always eager to reject all sorts of personal benefits as a sacrifice at the Lotus Feet of Sri Govardhanadhari.

By the Divine Arrangement of Shri Krishna I met your worthy and devoted son this very year and expressed to him that he send my dandavats to your lotus feet. So through the putra I have met the father. I know that in your tireless execution of bhakti you have left your blessings behind for us lowly souls whose only wish is follow you back to Home back to Godhead, the lovely fields of Vraja where you will associate with the Lord in the most intimate of ways.

Your departure has created a flood of tears, but may those merge with the holy Yamuna and render us pure in the oblation of your divine memory.

All glories to Srila Gopiparanadhana das Prabhu, pure devotee of Sri Guru and Gauranga.

BY SHYAMASUNDARA DASA (ACBSP)

I first met Gopiparanadhana Prabhu in 1979 in LA. We spent time together here in Bangalore from 1981-83 while he was working on the translation of the rest of the Bhagavatam. Over the years we had a nice friendship. He didn't have a mean bone in his whole body and was incapable of offending any one; he had such humility and kindness in him.

Ironically today my wife and I had lunch at a devotee friend's house. We had recommended that they read the Brhad Bhagavatamrta translated by Gopiparanadhana. Srila Prabhupada had said that if you want to understand what real Bhakti yoga is you must read BB. Just by reciting from memory whatever we could remember of the BB our hosts were so moved that tears were coming down their cheeks because of the wonderful descriptions of Lord Krsna's dealings with His devotees contained in that book. Especially moving was how Krsna said to Gopa Kumar after he returned back to godhead in Goloka: "I have been looking at that path every day and wondering when will you show your mercy onto Me and come back to Me, and now you have returned to Me."

Lord Krsna is so humble that He is waiting for us to show our "mercy" on Him. There was no dry eye in the room. So in this way for at least 1-2 hours we were glorifying the BB and Gopiparanadhana Prabhu for translating it. Just then I got the SMS message that Gopiparanadhana Prabhu had left his body and could not believe that the person who I had been glorifying had just died. All I can think is that now Lord Krsna's wait for His dear friend Gopiparanadhana Prabhu to come back to Him is now over.

For Gopiparanadhana Prabhu ... The charms of Vrindaban thy heart regale, unknown the wheel of time doth roll !! He reasons ill who tells that Vaishnavas die when thou art living still in sound. The Vaishnavas die to live and living try to spread a holy life around !! Now let the candid man that seeks to live follow thy way on shores of time, then posterity sure to him will give Like one song in simple rhyme!

BY KIRTIRAJA DASA

I remember Gopiparanadhana prabhu from when he moved into the Henry Street, Brooklyn Temple. From the beginning he was sober, serious, focused and a very nice devotee. He made many lasting contributions to Srila Prabhupada's
mission and he will not be forgotten. Gopiparanadhana prabhu ki jaya! Giriraja lal ki jaya!

Great souls are leaving. This world is becoming empty. The degradation is increasing day by day and we devotees are getting confused about the real form of Bhakti. A great lost, who will guide us after the great souls depart
