Spiritual Scientist: Krishna’s immortal legacy for all of us

The Bhagavad-gita (4.1) states that Krishna offers all of us, his children, an immortal heritage: the path of unending love (bhakti-yoga). Even if we receive the best possible legacy from our parents, it will be stripped away from us by the irresistible pull of time. But Krishna as the supreme parent offers us a legacy that time has no power to touch, leave alone steal. His legacy of bhakti-yoga redirects our love from the temporary to the eternal, and thereby elevates us to the immortal realm, where we relish immortal love with him. Thus, Krishna’s immortal legacy for us forms a bridge between the realm of mortality – the material world where we presently reside – and the realm of immortality – the spiritual word where we eternally belong.

Krishna demonstrates his supreme parental love by offering us an immortal legacy and all he expects from us is that we receive his legacy. Normally, children are eager to receive their parent's legacy, but we being infatuated with mortal pleasures and treasures are eager to postpone receiving Krishna's immortal legacy.

If we just turn our heart and tongue to Krishna by desiring to love him and to chant his holy names, immortal enrichment will soon be ours for the taking.

ISKCON Melbourne, AU: Today's Darsana

16/1/12

"Simply by meditating on Krsna's lotus feet, one attains all spiritual and material wealth, fortune, beauty and good qualities. These feet are the abode of all pastimes. May Krsna's lotus feet be our everything."

(Govinda-lilamrta chp.16)

May the darsana of Sri Krsna's lotus feet bring us to the abode of all pastimes: Goloka Vrndavana.

Akrura das, Gita Coaching: YOU MATTER

One simple proof that you matter is that both maya and Krsna do a lot of marketing to draw your attention and get you on their side. Krsna (God) cares about you and wants you to be happy. Maya wants to distract you from Krsna and will ultimately leave you empty-handed.

Akrura das, Gita Coaching: HOW TO EAT?

We should not eat more or less.
Better eat less than eat more.
You'll not die by eating less.
But you may die eating more.
People die for overeating, not for undereating.
This should be the principle.
Here... Medical science always forbids not to eat more than you require.
Voracious eating is the cause of diabetes, and undernourishment is the cause of tuberculosis.
This is the medical science.
So we should not take under, neither more.
- Srila Prabhupada

Akrura das, Gita Coaching: STEPPING UP

• The keys to stepping up are accepting personal responsibility
and focusing on what can be changed.

• We must all realize that we have tremendous power to
influence the “five rows” around us. In order to create
change, we must act locally (in our own workplaces,
homes, and communities) with the understanding that
local change is as important—if not more important—
than global change.

• The responsibility ripple is the way our stepping up encourages
others to step up.

• Aggregate influence reminds us that when we act, our
single act combines with those of others to create great
power.

• Be naive and optimistic. A key component to stepping
up is believing you have the ability to make a difference.

• Accept 100 percent responsibility with zero excuses
(the 100/0 principle). Focus on how you are contributing
to the problem instead of what someone else is doing.
When you accept your portion of responsibility in the
matter, the other person will invariably meet you halfway.

• You don’t have to be special to do special things.

• You can’t not lead. That is, we have influence over others
whether we choose to acknowledge it or not.
Leadership is a posture and a choice, not a role that
must be bestowed on you. Step up and be a leader
when no one is watching or expecting you to do so.

• Leadership does not require official authority. As I said
before, many of us are waiting to be in a position of
influence before we influence. The opposite is more representative
of reality. The more we influence, the more
we will get the opportunity to influence.

• Do something, do anything! A perfect plan does not
need to be in place before you take action.

• Take a single step, and the rest will follow.

• People find it easier to stand up when they know they
won’t be alone.

• Focus on what you can control, not whom you can
blame.

• You are the only one you can control.

• Work through setbacks rather than use them as excuses
not to proceed.

• Step up in the moment you are in, using the skills you
have. You do not have to go out looking for ways to
step up; the opportunities are right in front of you.

• Speaking up, without blaming or complaining, is a key
component to stepping up.

• Skill, talent, and resources are overrated compared with
drive, determination, and vision.

• When implementing changes, give all employees/family
members a seat at the table. They will step up when
they feel their input is valued and appreciated.

Akrura das, Gita Coaching: NEW YORK INTERVIEWS

"Exceedingexpectations is an exciting paradigm."

OnceBhakti-tirtha Swami had a radio show at WBAI 99.5 FM with Haptse Selassie, radio station located on Wall Street in New York which is the only publicstation in New York and is supposedly the best public radio station in America.

Hediscussed many topics from his Leadership book and tried to share severaluplifting points. As he was finishing this particular show, Caitanya Priya dasihad caught the attention of one very popular radio host who had interviewedSrila Bhakti-tirtha Swami the previous year. She mentioned to her that he wasin the studio and arranged it so that at the completion of his first interview,His Holiness could do a tape interview for her show, to be aired at later time.

Kathy isa very powerful personality in the radio field and her show has millions oflisteners.

As Swamiwas getting ready to leave, Caitanya Priya had talked to another radio host inthe same studio who has his own show and convinced him that he should also airBhakti-tirtha Swami. So he requested that Swami come the next day in the latemorning for some live discussion, but as His Holiness's schedule was quitetight, he thought that it would be impractical. However, the host said thatMaharaja could call in and he would interview him over the telephone.

So the nextday he was able to have some live discussion where he could once again explainthings about leadership and some of the topics of his new books.

This isexcellence. A preaching assistant doesn't become self-complacent but looks formore and more opportunities for bringing the message across. Caitanya Priya dasiis a shining example of highly effective assistant.

Srimad Bhagavatam 1.6.10 - Apparent setbacks in the life of a devotee are really Krsna's special mercy.

tadā tad aham īśasya

bhaktānāḿ śam abhīpsataḥ

anugrahaḿ manyamānaḥ

prātiṣṭhaḿ diśam uttarām

SYNONYMS

tadā — at that time; tat — that; aham — Iīśasya — of the Lord; bhaktānām — of the devotees; śam — mercy; abhīpsataḥ — desiring; anugraham — special benediction; manyamānaḥ — thinking in that way; prātiṣṭham — departed; diśam uttarām — inthe northern direction.

TRANSLATION

I took this as the special mercy of the Lord, who always desires benediction for His devotees, and so thinking, I started for the north.

PURPORT

Confidential devotees of the Lord see in every step a benedictory direction of the Lord. What is considered to be an odd or difficult moment in the mundane sense is accepted as special mercy of the Lord. Mundane prosperity is a kind of material fever, and by the grace of the Lord the temperature of this material fever is gradually diminished, and spiritual health is obtained step by step. Mundane people misunderstand it.

"We have so many things to do just to survive that sometimes we feel we have to sacrifice japa and prayer as mere luxuries. Here again a balance is required, but we owe it to ourselves not to be forced into a situation where we find ‘no time’ for basic, daily devotions."

One ISKCON.com: Harikesa Dasa In Retrospect

By His Holiness Danavir Goswami: In this state, Harikesa dasa again declared himself to be Skandha, the warlord. But this time his illusions of grandeur were so great that he also imagined himself to be Krishna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead and one of his female disciples to be a divine consort. He thus approached her improperly.

Akrura das, Gita Coaching: APPRECIATION

"Catchdevotees doing things right."

There aremany ways to show appreciation for the devotees' services in the temple. Hereare some ideas. We can put sticker messages on their door or closet or bed. Wecould write: "Thank you very much Krishnadas Prabhu for taking care nicelyof the temple garden." Or: "Many thanks Srimate Gaurangi dasi forcooking so nicely for our wonderful Deities."

The message may be decoratedaccording to your imagination and may be anonymous or not. Just imagine howwould you feel if here and there you find signs that your service andcontribution in a temple or a Yatra is appreciated by 'someone'.

Then wecan write something on a bulletin board or in the temple newsletter. We canpraise individual devotees on National COM Conferences and on Sunday Feasts. Itis good for a leader to glorify devotees, and the devotees will also becomeinspired.

We don't have to be afraid they will become puffed-up if we praisethem appropriately, according to their contribution and sincere effort. Themessage of a leader is: "I like you. Just go on. I appreciate yourservice very much. Your service is valued in this temple or Yatra."

Thatmay inspire devotees to develop their service to Krishna.

Akrura das, Gita Coaching: PRABHUPADA CARES

A small but significant incident at New Vrindaban on June 26 1976
illustrates Srila Prabhupada's care for devotees:

"Shortly after eight thirty he [Prabhupada] brought the meeting to an end.
As he prepared to retire to the house, he looked at one of the women,
Gopalasyapriya dasi, who was rather under dressed considering the chill of
the evening. He was concerned and he turned to Kuladri, the temple
president. "Um hmm. This girl? This cloth is sufficient? So you have no
covering? They do not require covering?"

Kuladri was casual about it, trying to explain it away to assuage Srila
Prabhupada's disquiet. "It is warm for us, Srila Prabhupada."

But Srila Prabhupada wouldn't allow it to be passed off lightly. "No, if
they require, they must be supplied. You must ask them what you need, and
provide them. Because they do not say, you'll also keep silent -- that's not
good. Every month they should be asked what they need. Necessities, they
must be supplied. We have already discussed this point. The women, they
require protection, children, women."

H.G. Sankarshan das Adhikari, USA: Sunday 15 January 2012--Reflections on an Amazing Lecture Tour--and--The Sevenfold Universal Coverings

A daily broadcast of the Ultimate Self Realization Course Sunday 15 January 2012 The Supreme Personality of Godhead, Lord Sri Krishna, and His eternal consort, Srimati Radharani are enjoying transcendental pastimes in the topmost planet of the spiritual world, Sri Goloka Vrindavan. They are beckoning us to rejoin them. (Click on photo to see a larger image.) Our Mission: To help everyone awaken their original Krishna consciousness, which is eternal, full of knowledge and full of bliss. Such a global awakening will, in one stroke, solve all the problems of the world society bringing in a new era of unprecedented peace and prosperity for all. May that day, which the world so desperately needs, come very soon. We request you to participate in this mission by reviving your dormant Krishna consciousness and assisting us in spreading this science all over the world. Dedicated with love to ISKCON Founder-Acharya: His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, our beloved spiritual master, and to you, our dear readers. For Transcendental Association Connect With Other Members of this Course. Join this Conference: http://groups.google.com/group/sda_students Help Popularize Our Message By Liking Today's Thought on Facebook: Today's Thought: Reflections on an Amazing Lecture Tour uploaded from the Los Angeles, California Airport We are now concluding our second around-the-world lecture tour for 2011. It was the most wonderful, enlivening transcendental experience. I lectured on the science of Krishna consciousness and chanted Hare Krishna kirtan in the following fifteen countries: the United Kingdom, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Russia, Bulgaria, Romania, India, Mauritius, South Africa, Australia, Argentina, Chile, and the USA. To experience first hand how all over the world people are seriously taking up the pathway of Krishna consciousness and to be allowed the privilege of being able to encourage them in this, is the greatest blessing I could ever imagine. I pray to be eternally engaged in serving the devotees like this. Now we are taking a couple of months off the road until after Gaura Purnima when we embark on our Spring 2012 around-the-world lecture tour. My thanks to all the devotees who helped and facilitated us all over the world in so many ways with accommodations, prasadam, transportation and many, many speaking opportunities. And my special thanks to my devoted wife, Her Grace Srimati Vishnupriya devi dasi, who tolerated all the austerities of living on the road to accompany me on this tour and who blessed me constantly with the best Krishna conscious association. Please accept my respectful obeisances. I know that there are sevenfold coverings covering the material universe. My question is that does each and every material universe have these sevenfold coverings, or are these coverings only after the last material universe? Although my prime interest is to go beyond these coverings and enter the inexplicably amazing spiritual sky, but just for knowledge I would like to know this. Your student Answer: Each Universe Has the Seven Coverings Each universe has its own coverings. Srila Prabhupada describes this in his purport to Srimad Bhagavatam 6.16.37: The first covering is earth, the second is water, the third is fire, the fourth is air, the fifth is sky, the sixth is the total material energy, and the seventh is the false ego. Beginning with the covering of earth, each covering is ten times greater than the previous one. Thus we can only imagine how great each universe is, and there are many millions of universes.
