Australian News: Seva Day At New Gokula

The paddocks at the New Gokula farm are inundated with fireweed (Senecio madagascariensis). There is only one effective way to control this weed, and that is to pull it out by hand. We can gather enough hands to pull weeds for a day. Fireweed takes over the grazing for the cows, and is not healthy for the cows or milk they produce. This is a great opportunity to serve and enjoy prasadam and kirtan all in the same day. Haribol!

Can't get there from here? "Transport: A Survival Guide," the summer 2011 issue ofColors, the magazine published by Benetton, asks us to imagine the day when the planet's oil supply finally runs out. Vividly photographed and accented with fact-rich footnotes, it offers alternatives that are largely grass-roots and low tech: a boat made of Styrofoam and plastic bottles or tricked-out bicycle taxis (complete with radios) from Kenya, or the profusely decorated, three-wheeled motorcycle carts called chakdas (complete with instructions on how to make them) from Gujarat, India, that can carry up to 15 passengers. But there are also rickshaw-pulling robots made by a farmer who lives in a village outside Beijing and a solar-powered car designed by an inventor in Jiangjiang, China. The car may look like a tin can covered with solar panels, but when the inventor took it out for its first test drive in 2008, he passed a line over a mile long of drivers waiting to get into a gas station.

Management is no doubt a difficult thing, more than not you have more critics than those who praise. Indeed in society there is less and less respect for those in any position of authority; indeed we are encouraged to question and critically analyze every word, act and deed.

Spending time at home and actually not running around (I managed to hydrolock my car) it has given me time to re-read e-mail’s and spend time reading articles on the internet; listening to morning classes and nice kirtan’s posted. Indeed it’s nice to be in the slow lane for once.

But I’ve noticed one thing, a theme of sorts so to say; very few praise devotees, there achievements or steadfastness in devotional service. Even if the person has some faults do we look beyond and see how sincere they are in trying to undertake service?

Looking at one e-mail it impressed this on my mind, it was highly critical of the management, it’s structure and response to abuse within the society and especially of one department that was accused of bullying. Not withstanding there was no mention of the service being undertaken and the pressures this has upon the individual. I know and have had some exchanges with the department in question, at times a frank exchange but could I do service at the level they do? Truthfully NO! Sadly, and it has immense pressure that few appreciate.

Witnessing an incident of bullying I rang the Temple President; I have few exchanges with and explained my concerns, within a few weeks it was resolved; although it did cause some hurt for some individuals but it was nice that even those most hurt took time to ponder what they can learn from this.

Indeed not all our dealings with devotees are sweet, sadly myself am still banned from a centre here in the UK, it’s sadly stood for now approaching five years and remains a sadness I am unable to express a wound that refuses to heal. Indeed at first I was very bitter and highly critical of the management; especially after being approached by the same temple president a week later for help as the centre was being sued. Indeed it can be seen that I may have the right to feel bitter but in reality I don’t as my Guru Maharaja reminded me anything we experience in this life is not any one else’s fault but your own, hard words but true.

But it did two things, it gave me a wake up call as to my own dealings with devotees; and by the mercy of the devotees at the Temple I have attended since then an opportunity to learn and advance spiritually, indeed it is impressed each and every visit how privileged it is that Krishna allows even the slightest service and to serve directly by helping do the morning transfers remains truly humbling; I love this sweet early morning service.

I see how Krishna not only had to teach me but move me to a place were more advancement can be made, it was and is a long journey and I’ve made many mistakes along the way and I’ve got a long long way to go. The more I associate with devotees the further away from the goal I appear to be which is in some ways not a bad thing.

But my feeling is at this time that a small but humble public apology for the devotees and managers I have and may have inadvertently offended over the years.

For me personally hurt leads to bitterness, bitterness leads of offense and offense leads to a hinderance in spiritual progress.

So to all those who I have offended I make this public apology and ask humbly for forgiveness

Yours Humbly
Dhirabhakta Dasa

Australian News: ISKCON Loses 26 2nd Avenue

By Yadunath das on Dandavats.com

Did you just experience the same sinking feeling in your heart upon reading this headline that I did upon writing it?

A few months back, I wrote you all asking for monthly financial support to help keep Prabhupada's 1st western temple up, running and under ISKCON care. My reasoning was that this temple is of global concern and surely the worldwide ISKCON community has a stake in whether or not its bills can be paid.

I may have been wrong.

There are always disturbing things going on here that are beyond our control. Those who are fixed in Krishna consciousness are not disturbed by these things, nor are they carried way or intoxicated by the temporary pleasures of this material world. Such great transcendentalists are known as mahatmas, and being very merciful upon the illusioned souls of this world they fully absorb their lives in the ultimate welfare work of saving the deluded world population from its suffering condition. Please accept my obeisances All glories to Srila Prabhupada. If someone feels bad, should we be pulled down and also feel bad out of compassion and identification with him? Your servant Indu Answer: The Devotee Lovingly Embraces Distress Even though the devotee of the Lord is never distressed in any condition of life, he us known as para-dukha-dukh, one who feels distressed to see the distress of others. Therefore he dedicates his entire life for freeing all of the suffering people from their misery by teaching them the sublime process of Krishna consciousness. Because of this pure compassion Krishna is very pleased with him and bestows upon him the supreme happiness, Krishna prema.
