Jayapataka Swami: When I met Sridhara Swami to seek his blessings just prior to going on the South Indian Safari Maharaja was very emphatic! His time was not yet up! He had many things to still do or Srila Prabhupada. I mentioned to him that the Temple of Vedic Planetarium in Mayapur was one such work. Sridhara Swami confirmed.

My father had always been inimical toward Krsna Consciousness because I’m his only child and he never wanted to say Krsna. At the very most he said, “Krish”. But at the end of May while he was very very sick he became more accepting and said Krsna.

His Grace Ravindra Svarupa das, Krishna premavati’s spiritual master, sent this eulogy to be read at her funeral, which took place in Dublin earlier this afternoon. It very nicely sums up KPV’s personality, which we are all going to miss.

Despite his sometimes troubled recent past, he did tremendous service for many years, was resident here in Mayapur for the last few years, he left his body here in Mayapur and therefore we can say without doubt that he got the full blessings of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu and Srila Prabhupada.

Many times I have dreamt of telling the whole world how very much Srila Prabhupada means to me—how he’s done so much for me. Not only for me, but for the whole world! Something like—go tell it from the mountaintop type of thing that now Srila Prabhupada has sent a Lord Chaitanya’s moon all over the world, Kali Yuga hasn’t got a chance for the next 10,000 years!

My earliest memories of her are way back in the mid 1980’s when I was myself a young boy in the 6th or 7th grade visiting my home during the vacations. At that time, I would accompany Sukumaramman, himself a Krishna devotee to Rudrani’s home for their weekly pujas.

After the G.B.C. assembly in Vrindavana, Svarupa Damodara had traveled to Manipur and Calcutta and was now returning to Vrindavana to see Srila Prabhupada. As soon as Prabhupada heard Svarupa Damodara had arrived he asked to see him. As usual, Srila Prabhupada treated him very specially and gave him much time and attention.

At the age of 12, he was being on his own depending on the income from the cultivation of the paddy field left by his father. Working in the fields and doing household duties, Damodar could not find sufficient time to devote to his studies. He was thinking of giving up his studies altogether. At t he request of Shri Yadav Singh, his primary school teacher, Shri Kerani Singh, his colleague, who was a noble person and one of the most influential persons of Toubul village agreed to help him..Damodara became one of the members of Kerani’s family and thus began a new chapter in his life. His teachers found him to be a bright, diligent, sincere, humble and obedient student.

Srila Prabhupad’s first disciple is Acharya Prabhakar. I believe he is still alive. Srila Prabhupad had lived with him in a single room for over three years in Jhansi. They talked all the time and note this, in Sanskrit. Referring to this disciple Srila Prabhupad told me “he speaks Sanskrit better than we can speak in English, he is that expert.

I wrote this about six years ago after the passing of Mother Sunita. That was also the year that Param Brahma left the world and a year after young Keshava died. When death hits close to home, it seems so sudden and surprising even though we all know it eventually comes to everyone.

Although Srila Prabhupada wanted his disciples to be as eager to distribute Krsna consciousness literature as we was, no one of them knew how to do it. Distributing a magazine and asking for small donation was one thing-but a big hardbound book?

I told her about my classmate who died in San Francisco in 1977 while active in Hare Krishna. She asked his name. I told her it was Jim Kohr. She asked me if the previous day I had seen the photo on the front of the chariot. She told me it was Jim Kohr!!

Once in New Jersey, Srila Prabhupada called me into his room and asked me very nicely whether I was washing clothes in hot, soapy water. He said that normally so much soap is not needed, but because he was getting oil massages it was necessary to wash them with soap and hot water to cleanse them properly

Srila Prabhupada was a wonderful person and everyone who met him immediately fell in love with him. The entire city of Bombay is completely infused and permeated by Srila Prabhupada’s personal presence.

Sometimes when sitting on the beach blanket in New Jersey, Srila Prabhupada would look out at the waves while chanting japa. He was very beautiful and serene, always absorbed in Krsna, yet also carefully scrutinizing the world around him. On some days there were big waves and surfer boys would be out, swimming and surfing in the waves. Srila Prabhupada watched with great interest as they mounted their boards and slid down the faces of the waves.

As Prabhupada chastised the devotees, a two-year-old toddler came walking by eating a piece of sugarcane. Seeing this, a sixty-year-old Bengali devotee grabbed the sugarcane from the child’s hand and chastised the child, who immediately began to cry. Prabhupada said, “Ustadi boca: although your eyes were blind, you are now the coach.”

This is to regretfully inform you that Chandi Prabhu, a good disciple of Srila Prabhupada from Mexico, left his body at approximately 8 PM this evening, Monday January 30 while he was recuperating from Pneumonia at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Downtown Los Angeles.

For six weeks Srila Prabhupada stayed at the flat of Kartikeya Mahadevia. From the ground floor there was a very small two man elevator that could be used to get to Srila Prabhupada’s rooms. One morning Srila Prabhupada, Tamal Krishna Goswami and I were headed toward the elevator on the way to the morning walk.

Jayananda naturally stood in a yogic pose sometimes as he cooked or while casually conversing with other devotees. It was a fixed position with the right foot (leg bent at the knee) placed on the left inner thigh. He would hold perfectly still this way as the most natural thing. On one leg like the mystic yogic boy Druva Maharaja, Jayananda stood this way quite at ease

On the 7th of January the the funeral ceremony, or antyesti was performed for HG Sri Ram Prabhu at Sacramento CA. Directing and performing the ceremony was HG Bahusira Prabhu, head pujari of the ISKCON Berkeley temple. After ceremonial bathing and dressing of the body, the funeral service was performed in a chapel at a beautiful memorial ground in a rural area.

I first met Sri-Ram prabhu in early 1980 here in this temple where I am presently visiting. He was at that time TP and had his office in what has now become a guest room where I am presently accommodated. It was in this room that he graciously showed hospitality to a Jesuit priest who taught me Latin who was visiting me here to console me at the recent death of my father.
