The Power of the Transcendental Sweetness of Gaura/ Krishna

Sadhu Sanga

  • The Power of the Transcendental Sweetness of Gaura/ Krishna

The devotee who follows the path of Vaidi bhakti gradually comes under the control of relishing the transcendental opulence or if one is more fortunate by firm faith in the association of rare transcendentally sweet devotees becomes controlled by the sweetness of the Supreme Personality of Godhead Gaura/Krishna. In this way one overcomes being controlled by the path of regulated devotional service and its Gurus or controllers.

The Devotee who relishes the sweetness of Gaura/ Krishna becomes very sweet himself: This sweetness of the devotee subdues and brings Krishna under his control also. The devotee engaged in plundering daily the sweetness of Gaura/Krishna becomes Super Sweetness personified, so much so that Krishna in the form of the suffering minute fallen living entities become attracted and controlled by the devotees flute song of sweet glorification of sweetness qualities of Gaura/Krishna. In the process they are eternally liberated becoming addicted to this transcendentally sweet sugar candy coated with loving devotion which dissolves their attachment to the illusionary gross and subtle body. — con Sachi Devidasi y 27 personas más.

Spiritual Scientist: Krishna is impartially partial

The Bhagavad-gita (9.29) states two paradoxical features of Krishna’s nature:

  1. He is equal to all and does not consider anyone to be an object of aversion or affection.
  2. For those who worship him with devotion, he offers himself to them and they offer themselves to him.

These two features suggest that Krishna is both partial and impartial. How can that be? The key to understand Krishna is to remember that he is not just an impersonal principle, but a sentient person. Being a person, Krishna is neither neutral, nor partial; he is reciprocal. When we try to avoid Krishna, he reciprocates by not interfering in our lives and lets us stay under the supervision of the impartial law of karma. When we try to love Krishna, he reciprocates by showering his love on us and intervening to take special care of us.

If Krishna exhibited a stone-like neutrality towards all, there would be hardly any possibility to develop a relationship with him. How many people can sing songs about their love for a stone? If Krishna had not been reciprocal, love for him would have remained mostly an abstract intellectual conception. It is Krishna’s reciprocity that makes his personality emotionally tangible and eminently lovable. It is Krishna’s reciprocity that makes love for him real.

As Krishna is reciprocal, he is indeed partial to his devotees. But as he is universally reciprocal, he allows anyone to become his devotee and thereby benefit from his partiality.

Thus, Krishna is impartially partial: he impartially opens the doors to partiality for everyone.

ISKCON Malaysia: Makara Sankranti and Ponggal Explained

BY SANTI VARDHANA CAITANYA DASA

Tamils may have different names for their months, but it is same as the Vedic Solar Calendar. Everything is same except for the names of months. The Tamil month of Thai correspond to the Vedic month of Makara.

In both Vedic and Tamil calendar, the Thai month and Makara month mark the time when the Sun move
from the Southern hemisphere to the auspicious Northern hemisphere.

The Makara Sankranti marks the new beginning, auspicious start and prosperity. It is also time of giving gifts.

You will be surprised to know that Makara Sankranti also marks the time when the Devas in the heavens [Svargum] offers prayers unto the Sun God - Surya Narayana. Makara Sankranti marks the Sunrise at Svargum and so the Devas perform their Surya Namaskara on this day. "Adi" month or the Kartaka Sankranti marks the Sunset on Svargum.

I have proven how according to astrological view, Ponggal and Makara Sankranti is related.

In ancient times, more than 2000 years ago, this Makara Sankranti occurs on 25th December. The planets move with time and at present, the Makara Sankranti occurs on 14th January. The Roman Emperors, wanting to unite their empire, chose Christianity as their religion [hence Roman Catholics] and converted many ancient festivals as Christian festival and Makara Sankranti being most popular festival is converted as Christmas. Christmas is not the birth of Jesus Christ.

Christians celebrate birth of Jesus Christ on Good Friday which many fast all day or at least be vegetarians. Some fast for 40 days or be vegetarians during this period.

Furthermore, Makara Sankranti is celebrated all over India in same way. It is not unique to Tamil Nadu.

Akrura das, Gita Coaching: I WANNA TALK BUT ...

I said:
I want to talk.
I want to preach.
I want to give advice.
I want to give tips.
I want to give people success tools.
I want to give people ideas.
I want to give people solutions.

Gita Coach said:
That is nice.
But if you really want to help people, you have to SHUT UP.
You have to listen to people first.
You have to understand them first.
Understand what they want.
Understand what they are going through.
Understand what they think.
Understand how they feel.
Understand what they need in order to succeed.
And in order to understand, you have to LISTEN attentively and deeply.
Not talk.

ISKCON Toronto, Canada: New ads in the Toronto Subway on being Vegetarian

Thousands of Torontonians take the TTC daily to go to school, work and back home. The TTC Subway carts are full of different ads, but recent ads by an independent group called Be Veg have been catching the attention of Subway goers. Using a simple question of "Why love one but eat the other", these ads ask Torontonians why do they love pets like dogs and cats, but eat farm animals like cows, chickens and pigs. They show the inhumane conditions these animals are put through to produce meat. They urge the readers to be compassionate and think about what they are eating and where it is coming from.

The tradition of Bhakti Yoga, which is practiced by the Hare Krishnas, believes in being a strict vegetarian to show compassion to all living beings. Check out this video that showcases reactions from some of the people who travel by trains and have seen the ads.

Do Something About It

Toronto, Ontario

I will continue to promote the walking culture to colleagues and dependents, students and anyone who seeks life improvement.

Here's what I stumbled upon (with eyes) written by author Colin Fletcher:

"I had better admit right away that walking can in the end become anaddiction, and that it is then as deadly as fashion or heroine or television orthe stock exchange. But even in this final stage it remains a delectablemadness, very good for sanity, and I recommend it with a passion."

You know how I don't care if people call me a fanatic when I fire out wordsabout taking care of yourself. Yura, a young York U student picked me up at theairport and I asked the usual, "How's your health?" as much as I say,"How's your Sadhana?" which is in reference to a metaphysicalworkout.

Yura expressed he has tension in his machinery and especially in his lowerback. "Well do you walk?" I asked. Yura is in his early 20's.

To paraphrase his answer, he said that it was minimal. So then I got on hiscase for letting his many hours of study indoors stand in the way of hisoverall well-being. As Mark Twain said, "Don't let school get in the way ofyour education." In the same way, don't let current living conditionsrestrict you from the healthy and sane life.

We have potential. Look at your frame. Is it for flying? Swimming at longlengths? Unrestricted sex? No! Then what? Think about it and do something aboutit!

H.H. Kadamba Kanana Swami: Preaching is super easy!

(Kadamba Kanana Swami, Mayapur, November 2011) Lecture – Caitanya-caritamrta part 6

If one wants to distribute Krishna Consciousness then it is not propaganda. The communists were into propaganda. I lived here in Bengal and saw communist books in the bookstores, which were all over Bengal for propaganda. You can see that there was communism in Bengal, which is all a propaganda machine. But Krishna Consciousness can never be a propaganda machine. We must be the embodiedment of the books!

If we are the only movement that distribute books – yes then those books will make them into devotees…..but we will drop on the way beside ourselves, then we ourselves will become the casualty. That is not the idea, since we have to do it ourselves, because we have to live it! And that of course, is very important. It is not that we have to live it by being strict followers. Although, we should be strict followers, but that is not what we are talking about. We have to taste it!

Srila Prabhupada once said that:

“Preaching is very easy. Just show people how happy you are!”

It’s easy isn’t it? It’s super easy!

Japa Group: The Key For Good Chanting

"Patience and perseverance is the key for good chanting. We may chant attentively and excitedly one day but the next day we may feel lethargic and disinterested. The secret of successful chanting of Hare Krishna lies in disregarding our mood and maintaining consistency. Even if we feel bored and uninspired, if we keep chanting daily, we’ll eventually achieve victory over the mind. Regularity in chanting assures success in the long run."

New Vrndavan, USA: Prabhupada Cares

From “Transcendental Diary” by Hari-sauri dasa

A small but significant incident at New Vrindaban on June 26, 1976 illustrates Srila Prabhupada’s care for devotees:

Shortly after eight thirty he [Prabhupada] brought the meeting to an end. As he prepared to retire to the house, he looked at one of the women, Gopalasyapriya dasi, who was rather under dressed considering the chill of the evening. He was concerned and he turned to Kuladri, the temple president. “Um hmm. This girl? This cloth is sufficient? So you have no covering? They do not require covering?”

Kuladri was casual about it, trying to explain it away to assuage Srila Prabhupada’s disquiet. “It is warm for us, Srila Prabhupada.”

But Srila Prabhupada wouldn’t allow it to be passed off lightly. “No, if they require, they must be supplied. You must ask them what you need, and provide them. Because they do not say, you’ll also keep silent — that’s not good. Every month they should be asked what they need. Necessities, they must be supplied. We have already discussed this point. The women, they require protection, children, women.”

Krishna in the Bhagavad-Gita, one of the most well-known and loved scripts shared among different Schools of Thought in the Indian Continent, says that Knowledge means to distinguish the field (body) from the knower of the field (Self). To detach oneself from the body does not mean to refuse or despise it, in this wise there would not be real detachment since, as Heraclitus said, what attracts will disgust and vice versa.
In order to overcome the opposites of attraction and disgust, in Sanskrit called raga and dvesha, it is necessary to balance the opposites, to find the conjunction and to harmonize them. In this research of balance and harmonization, yoga, points out the importance of mediation. The term yoga derives from the Sanskrit root yuj, literally meaning “to unify, to connect”. As a matter of fact, yoga is the science for the Reintegration of the individual self with the Supreme Self, of infinitesimal consciousness with the Cosmic Consciousness. In the Bhagavad-Gita are described different types of yoga and Patanjali, in his famous treatise on Yogasutra that is one of the first and most relevant Schools of Mankind Psychology, describes eight phases to develop the Yogic Discipline (ashtanga yoga) where meditation is placed just as penultimate phase. Before entering a meditative state, the aspirant yogi has to purify his mind and heart by abstaining from activities that are against the spiritual evolution, yama, and engaging himself in favorable ones , niyama. Then, one has to become an expert in postures, asana, that enable to perceive the body as little as possible and afterward to learn the art of breathing, pranayama. By turning inside himself and detaching sense-organs from objects, pratyahara, trying to concentrate on his attentional resources towards an unique direction, dharana, the yogi predisposes himself to the very meditation, dyhana, where the flow of attention is not anymore called away by exterior interferences and thanks to which he will reach a stage of complete interior absorption, defined samadhi. The Pre-samadhi stages are necessary to resolve conflicts between the different psychic structures and functions, through the harmonization of personality and before aspiring to the complete absorption of the meditative seed, bija, all the more so the Self. The approach to meditation must be gradual, since first it is necessary to develop a certain knowledge arising from awareness of small realnesses, without the presumption from time to time to have conquered Reality and Truth thinking to be definitely illuminated. What happens by meditating is a continuous and progressive realization of Reality, that reveals itself slowly until it is clear, evident, bright and natural, so natural that it would be impossible to conceive it differently.
For example, the awareness of being different than the body can arise suddenly, as in the case of diagnosis of terminal illness, of irreversible and degenerative pathology, boosting the patient not to concentrate just on the physical structure that is subject to such a devastation, but on himself. From this perspective, as explained through different MCE works for several Italian Hospitals and Health Care Institutions, death must not be seen as a physical event, something concrete, but more as an abstract concept, since there is not concrete end of something, but the transformation in something else. On the other hand, the aim of disidentification may be progressively reached through an introspective process that enables to understand that the body is our external means, we must not identify ourselves in it, but consider it precious, useful and dear to us serving to future experiences and acquaintances. The human body and personality do not represent exhaustly the entirety of the person, but are simple aspects. The eminent divine part of us considers these aspects, as in general the human dimension, like reduction and constraint, a sort of prison.
Nevertheless, in Plato’s Metaphor the soul cage must not be considered obsessively as an oppression, since it is evolved material structure equal to the elevation degree of the consciousness housed in it. Therefore, everyone inhabits a certain body and consequently takes with it determined pathologies or a healthy state.

One ISKCON.com: Krsna Consciousness For Thesbians

By Raya Nitai Dasa Vanacari: So when the music was going on, Caitanya Mahāprabhu became very ecstatic, that "Such a nice music is coming from Jagannātha temple. Let Me go and see." Then His personal servant Govinda prohibited Him, "Sir, these songs are from woman." "Oh? It is from woman? Govinda, you have saved My life." (laughter) So sannyāsīs and brahmacārīs are strictly prohibited to hear or to see dancing woman. Of course, in your country it is very difficult. But at least if such play, dramatical play performed, the sannyāsīs, brahmacārīs cannot take part. - Srila Prabhupada

Akrura das, Gita Coaching: THE BEST WAY TO LEARN IS TO TEACH

If it’s not already obvious by the new site title here at Learn This, I hope this site will be a resource for people to learn from. While I plan to publish a lot of articles on many topics (the planned queue is getting larger every day), I do this primarily to help others learn some of the things I’ve learned myself. Now some I’ve learned by watching others, some by trial and error, some I’ve learned by talking with or reading articles from others, and some I’ve learned just by practice and observation. In doing this over the years, I’ve learned that the best way to really learn something is to teach that same thing to someone else. Anytime you have to teach something, you are forced to plan, think and act on what you learned which really drives it home.

There is a LOT of other personal learning benefits to teaching and sharing what you know. Here are some of the advantages in teaching for the purpose of learning:

- When teaching you review content which refreshes your memory of the content
- You get asked questions so need to understand it in order to respond
- Teaching it often makes you ask questions and research or study things in more depth
- Its wonderful to have others appreciate your help and to see them learn
- Makes you feel great to share with others
- Teaching and learning exercise you memory which keeps the brain healthy longer in life
- Commit things to your long term memory to increase your knowledge
- Helps you give advice or information in various situations (depends what you teach)
- Provides great conversation starters talking about things you teach
- Most people are more interested in a person who can teach them something

Take this site for example, while it does take a lot of time to publish a site like this and I’d love to have people think it is simply generous to do so, its not all for the benefit of others, as you can tell from the list above. What are some other things you get out of teaching?

Ananda Subramanian, Iowa, USA: Krishna is real and at the same time inconceivable

In the Bible, there are many stories describing the miraclesof Jesus Christ, how he healed the sick, raised people from the dead, multiplied one loaf of bread into many, walked on water etc. To none of thesestories, one can find hard evidence as defined by modern science. In fact, thereis no concrete evidence to prove even the existence of Jesus Christ. Yet, the modernday Christian community does not believe Jesus and his miracles to be myth. They do not believe it is mythology. They believe it to be true that JesusChrist was sent by God and that he has the ability to perform such miracles.

However, when we talk about Krishna lifting the GovardhanHill or Krishna showing His universal form or Krishna killing putana when hewas less than one month old, etc we dub all these incidents as myth? The storiesfrom the Mahabharata and Ramayana are considered mythology by modern dayscholars and common man including the devout so called hindus? This reflects theamount of faith one has on Krishna and Rama. In fact by calling Krishna andRama mythology is an indirect way of saying all this is not true and not veryimportant. The only reason today Krishna or Rama is taken seriously in India iseither from a historical/archeological standpoint or from areligious/sentimental standpoint. In both cases, the assumption is Krishna orRama may or may not exist and more probably be mythological characters. Buteven if they are not a myth, people do not have faith that Krishna would havelifted a mountain? This sort of understanding is prevalent in modern day India, unfortunately.

There are many reasons attributed to such a lack of faith. One reason is that there is no systematic educational system that teaches theomnipotency of God Krishna from very young age. Another reason is that Indiabecame such sycophants to British culture that they believed anything theBritish said. So the early Indologists starting with Max Mueller successfullymythologized the pastimes of Krishna and Rama and has been institutionalizedever since. However, one of the main reasons I believe is the lack of interesttowards spiritual life by so called Hindus and the lack of bonafide spiritualteachers (currently there are more fakes in the guise of sadhus – holy men) whocan teach the siddhanta (philosophical conclusions) of Krishna. According tothe pure spiritual masters (who live a life of devotion and service to Krishna)Krishna (or God) must be understood within the concept of achintya shakti. Thisis how we can rationalize such super human activities of Krishna. Achintyashakti means the power of inconceivability. In other words, Krishna is inconceivablebeyond our mundane mind and thoughts. We cannot limit Krishna within the limitsof our imagination because He is beyond our imagination. Therefore, Krishna cando anything at any place at any time.  Heis smaller than the smallest and bigger than the biggest.

Here is another display of His inconceivable powers. Krishnadescended to appear within His material creation some 5000 years ago. Sodespite the fact that Krishna is present inside His creation, still when Heopened His mouth, Mother Yasoda saw the entire breadth and width of thematerial creation. So although Krishna is inside His own creation displayingpastimes, still the entire creation is within Him, how is this possible? If wetry to analyze this story through the linear methods of modern science, we willbecome athesists or at best impersonalists. So the way the pure spiritualmasters teach us is that Krishna is inconceivable and we have to leave it atthat. But to accept the words of a spiritual master requires faith, humilityand devotion.

But in this jet-paced world, who stops to cultivate faith inan otherwise faithless world. So Lord Chaitanya recommends the easiest methodto cultivate that faith – that is –chant Hare Krishna and offer whatever youcan as little as a leaf, flower or fruit to the picture of Krishna indevotional mood. In this way, when we cultivate faith, we will see how Krishnawill reveal His inconceivable nature to us although our position is veryinsignificant.

Krishna is real, His activities are real, His names arereal, and calling Him through His names will actually attract the attention ofKrishna and eventually He will display His true inconceivable nature. Try itand you will not be disappointed.

Chant Hare Krishna

Hare Krishna

What is the best way to relate to other people? What is the secret to success? How can we make others do whatever we wish them to do? This may sound like advertising for some success book, the kind which never really answer our question but only promote the sales of its author. But in this exposé we are going to give it all out to the reader. Those who know the secret of love can be successful preachers. They can have successful relationships with one another and can know the pleasure of being liked

Akrura das, Gita Coaching: STEPPING UP

• The keys to stepping up are accepting personal responsibility
and focusing on what can be changed.
• We must all realize that we have tremendous power to
influence the “five rows” around us. In order to create
change, we must act locally (in our own workplaces,
homes, and communities) with the understanding that
local change is as important—if not more important—
than global change.
• The responsibility ripple is the way our stepping up encourages
others to step up.
• Aggregate influence reminds us that when we act, our
single act combines with those of others to create great
power.
• Be naive and optimistic. A key component to stepping
up is believing you have the ability to make a difference.
• Accept 100 percent responsibility with zero excuses
(the 100/0 principle). Focus on how you are contributing
to the problem instead of what someone else is doing.
When you accept your portion of responsibility in the
matter, the other person will invariably meet you halfway.
• You don’t have to be special to do special things.
• You can’t not lead. That is, we have influence over others
whether we choose to acknowledge it or not.
Leadership is a posture and a choice, not a role that
must be bestowed on you. Step up and be a leader
when no one is watching or expecting you to do so.
• Leadership does not require official authority. As I said
before, many of us are waiting to be in a position of
influence before we influence. The opposite is more representative
of reality. The more we influence, the more
we will get the opportunity to influence.
• Do something, do anything! A perfect plan does not
need to be in place before you take action.
• Take a single step, and the rest will follow.
• People find it easier to stand up when they know they
won’t be alone.
• Focus on what you can control, not whom you can
blame.
• You are the only one you can control.
• Work through setbacks rather than use them as excuses
not to proceed.
• Step up in the moment you are in, using the skills you
have. You do not have to go out looking for ways to
step up; the opportunities are right in front of you.
• Speaking up, without blaming or complaining, is a key
component to stepping up.
• Skill, talent, and resources are overrated compared with
drive, determination, and vision.
• When implementing changes, give all employees/family
members a seat at the table. They will step up when
they feel their input is valued and appreciated.
- Stepping Up, John Izzo

Akrura das, Gita Coaching: EXCEEDING EXPECTATIONS

Once one mataji asked her nine year old daughter to bring her a puri from a prasadam room. Since it was cold in the prasadam room, the puri was cold. The girl decided to heat it up in a microwave. Happily she brought it back: "Mummy, I heated the puri for you!"

This is a small example, but here we see an excellent attitude - to voluntarily do more than you are expected.

Join this Conference: http://groups.google.com/group/sda_students Help Popularize Our Message By Liking Today's Thought on Facebook: Today's Thought: Become Guru and Deliver the Whole World uploaded from Bhaktivedanta Ashram--Austin, Texas USA On 17 December 1973 in Los Angeles Srila Prabhupada gave this order to his disciples, Become guru and deliver the whole world. Considering the current increasingly degraded world situation, this seems to be an impossible to fulfill order. But yet we hear in the Bhagavad-gita that wherever Krishna and Arjuna are present there will certainly be opulence, victory, extraordinary power, and morality. Therefore if we can be pure enough in our Krishna consciousness to solidly connect with Krishna at every moment, we will be experience amazing victories in our humble attempt to make the entire world Krishna consciousness. Sankarshan Das Adhikari Srila Prabhupada Blesses World with Krishna Bhakti http://www.backtohome.com/images/Prabhupada/SP-Montreal.JPG Answers by Citing the Vedic Version: Question: Krishna Consciousness and Nonviolence? Dear Spiritual Master, Please accept my humble obeisances. Why is nonviolence not included as one of the pillars of pious activities, like Lord Buddha's first teaching of nonviolence and the Biblical teaching, Thou shall not kill.? Sujata Answer: Ignorance of the Soul is the Worst Violence Krishna does teach the principle of nonviolence. You need to study the Bhagavad-gita more carefully. You will find nonviolence taught as a principle in Bhagavad-gita, Chapter 13, Text 8. In his purport to this verse Srila Prabhupada explains as follows the true meaning of nonviolence: Nonviolence is generally taken to mean not killing or destroying the body, but actually nonviolence means not to put others into distress. People in general are trapped by ignorance in the material concept of life, and they perpetually suffer material pains. So unless one elevates people to spiritual knowledge, one is practicing violence. One should try his best to distribute real knowledge to the people, so that they may become enlightened and leave this material entanglement. That is nonviolence. So nonviolence goes far beyond simply committing violence to the body. The greatest violence one can commit is violence to the soul by keeping a person in ignorance of his spiritual identity as the eternal spirit-soul servant of Krishna. This is the worst form of violence, and this is now going on everywhere all over the world. Therefore it is the mission of the Krishna consciousness to put a stop this violence.
